More Trolley Square Trauma

The subject of the Trolley Square Shooting is back in the news.  Back in 2007 there was a shooting spree at the Trolley Square Mall in SLC.  I remember that day clearly.  I was going to take my Son to Trolley Square so we could buy a gift for Mrs. Ogre from her favorite little store there at Trolley Square.  We were about to head out when I mentioned my destination to a co-worker. That co-worker said “That store isn’t there anymore.”   Had we left then instead of going to a Plan B… my Son and I would have been there at Trolley Square, and I would have parked where I always parked, going in that entrance I always go there.   We would have been right there in the center of the shooting.

Energy Policy Problems

There has been a lot of talk by Obama and his henchmen about crushing Coal.  In his own words, what has Obama said about Coal?  He said he wants to bankrupt them.

Yet the Department of Energy, on their own website, seems to support Coal.

Coal is one of the true measures of the energy strength of the United States.  One quarter of the world’s coal reserves are found within the United States, and the energy content of the nation’s coal resources exceeds that of all the world’s known recoverable oil.  Coal is also the workhorse of the nation’s electric power industry, supplying more than half the electricity consumed by Americans.

Interesting.   Obama’s Energy Czar was on a crusade to kill coal, but luckily he resigned.  Regardless of what happened… The intention was there.

From the DOE’s page, over half of the Nation’s Energy is from Coal.  And Obama wanted to bankrupt that?  In Texas they have had rolling blackouts because of a lack of energy from coal

Here’s the deal, America is rich with natural energy.  We have oil and natural gas under our feet.  Energy should be CHEAP for us.  But it isn’t.  Why isn’t it?

Tentative Date: Crusader Training 3-26

The only date in March that I have for Training is the 26th.  The course is Defensive Pistol, as that’s what most folks are asking for right off the bat.

However that time last year, and the year before, the Range was a Mud Bog.  The ground, isn’t frozen anymore and the soil is completely saturated.  4×4’s get stuck, in fact, last year… several did.  So I’m looking for an alternative venue.  There are a couple possibilities, one on the Wasatch Front.   I’ll post as things develop.

Another thing I want to do is a Crusader Teaghlach Training Day:  A training day for Family Members and Close Friends of Crusader Weaponry…  Wives, In Laws, Parents, and even Children.  Grilling and Gunning at the Range.  I’m thinking early summer.   Cost of the course will be Meat and Beverages.

Interesting observation

On the way to Church this morning, I saw something interesting.  A hawk swooped down on a dove that was sitting on a powerline.  The hawk drove the dove to the ground, tearing it’s chest open.  The hawk wasn’t much bigger than the dove… it was a small hawk.  Not sure of the species.  The hawk tried, but was unable to carry the dead dove off.  So it feasted on it’s kill where it laid.   One of my younger boys who saw this as well, declared that this was “COOL!”

Firearms Finishes

About Gun Finishes:  (This is an old article that I’ve updated)

Picking out a new gun is a complicated chore.  You have caliber, style, size, features, etc.   I’ve talked about these subjects before.  However, I’ve never really talked about an important aspect of the selection process… The finish.  It’s actually an important factor in the gun’s functionality.  There are a number of finish options to choose from.  Each one has it’s advantages and disadvantages beyond appearance.  Stainless, Blued, Nickel, Parkerized, Chrome, Coated… There are more options coming out every time you turn around.  Really the question lays with you and how, when and where you are going to be using the firearm.  Also, your hygiene.  How and how often clean the weapon… Not personal.  If you are a slob and really don’t want care about the gun all that much, then blued is not the finish for you and you might want a Stainless or Coated gun.   Lets not make any choices just yet.  Instead, let’s look at each finish and see what they have to offer.

Why so serious?

One of the reasons I’ve left a number of firearms forums and pretty much started my own… because too many people take Forums too seriously and get too wound up over differences of opinion.

Arguing on the Internet serves no purpose.  State your opinion, back it up with whatever you like… and if someone disagrees… that doesn’t make you less of a Man.  But when you persist and argue and let yourself get wound up over it… That does.

Motorcycles

For the last few years, the itch to get another motorcycle has been uncontrollable.  Well, Saturday that itch came to a head and I actually went out looking for a bike.

I found one.  The question is do I pull the trigger on it or do I let it go.  It’s an older bike, in great condition… the style I like, the size I want… Even if it is a V-Twin.  It’s getting about 50 miles to the gallon, which is much better than my truck which I think gets about 3… or at least it feels like it.

If I want to “Run out to Salt Lake”, that trip costs me about 140 bucks.  On this bike, it would cost about as much as a good Sandwich.   Which means getting out there to take care of business actually makes some business sense.  And with Crusader’s growth, I’m going have to get out there more often.  Not for Training Days, because I’d still have to bring the truck, but for other things… like helping Joe get orders processed, Slipstream made, all that.  And, hey… Get some 5 Guys Burgers because I just freaking feel like it.  Can’t do that in my truck.

If something happens like I want it to happen tomorrow or the next day – I’ll get it.

Question… Would you want one?

Now, this is a hypothetical question… nothing is planned… just me and my wild ideas here.

Let’s say Crusader Weaponry did a small run of custom, semi-auto, legal 16″ barreled (so no special paperwork needed), British Sterling SMG’s.  9mm, of course.  34 round mag.  Folding stock.

All the internals cleaned, deburred, Slipstreamed, and otherwise fitted.  Trigger pull improved.  External, the gun is Duracoated a Flat Black, Wolf Grey, or Olive Drab… your choice.  And let’s say that you could get that gun for… oh, say… only 600 bucks.

Would you want one?   Well, yes, of course you do.  You are Gun Guys and Gals, and Want isn’t the problem…   The real question is “Would you BUY one?”

BTW, yes, you could totally bring this to a Crusader Carbine Course… because that would be just that sweet.  Easy weapon to handle and shoot and hit with.  Slight Variations on normal carbine tactics, but still very workable and effective.   And Cheap To Feed.   Fun… Sterlings are made out of Fun.
