SIG Rising

There has been a lot of chatter about SIG’S quality control lately.  Statements that call it to question.
SIG started this themselves when they started offering a lot of 3rd party crap with the SIG stamp on it.  Holsters,  cheap Red Dots, bulky, overpriced lights… terrible stuff.
But this is mostly all in the past now and SIG has learned that lesson and taken it to heart.  What they are doing now is incredible.
SIG wants to be the best.  They want to offer the best to the American Gun Owner.  And to this right, they have to do it themselves.   This means they are bringing things in house.
Optics.  SIG is quietly making some amazing optics, after headhunting the best talent in the USA for the project.
SIG is also rolling very high quality ammunition.
The QC on their guns remains stringent.   Any 22X gun is going to be top quality.   Questioning maybe their rimfire stuff… debatable.  But SIG’s core gun lines have never faltered.  And honestly probably better than ever.  Better than even the legendary “German Stamped” guns.  Yes, I went there.   I’d happily take a new M11 pistol over any German marked 228 or the like.  I have full faith and confidence in SIG firearms.  And SIG is one of the very few gun makers I’d bet my life on.

The new 1911 Maker in North Carolina is Carolina Arms Group.    These guns are legit.  I’d put them right up there with Les Baer and Ed Brown.

The actions, triggers, overall fitment – flawless.  Very smooth.  Great triggers… These are everything you want in a 1911.

Now, CAG is a new company so they don’t have that name and reputation.   But if you know 1911’s and how they should be built – and not just Name Dropping and Marketing Buzzwords… and you examine a CAG 1911… You’ll know these are exquisite 1911’s.20150829_095841I took the opportunity to test fire their new Commander Length pistol.   It was flawless.   Cycled perfectly, and it didn’t just shoot point of aim – point of impact…. It was like it shot to “Point of Will”.  It was telekinetic… Exactly like a fine 1911 should be.   I wanted to put a round “THERE” and the round went there.  You are not just hitting your target… you are placing your shots on the target where you want them to go.

These guns are built with all premium level parts… Everything is forged billet.  Nothing even remotely MIM or Cast like how some high level 1911 makers are sneaking into their production… These are true custom built 1911’s.
The Price does reflect that… Around 3 Large.  But you really do get what you pay for here.   These guns are right up there with the very best.

President Trump or Sanders?

Like him or not, Donald Trump has a realistic shot at becoming President Trump.  It’s very early still, but I think the concept of a President Donald is something we’re going to have to get used to.

Personally, I don’t like him.  But this isn’t about my opinion, this is about a very possible reality.  See, Donald is offering something that most of the other candidates are lacking… Leadership.  Donald Trump is looking more and more like America’s Capitalist version of Putin.  That strong Leadership is something that the American People on a whole are starved for… so when they see it in a guy as smarmy as Trump, they latch on with their teeth and don’t want to let go.

Really, what would a Trump Presidency look like and would America be worse off for it?  I’m not sure what it would look like… but I do think that the USA would benefit from it.  Someone from a business background is needed for sure… I know that much.  I still think we really missed out on Mitt Romney and our Economy  has suffered for it.  But Trump has the business chops to make up for that.  If he doesn’t piss off every other nation in the world.  Of course, every other nation in the world is already pissed off because of Obama and a bowl of left over soup would make a better President than Obama.

So maybe that’s where we are… At the bottom of the barrel so anything would be a bounce back up.  It’s just a question of how high we can bounce this.

Ted Cruz though… I really like Ted Cruz.  I think out of all the Candidates, he is “The Best Man For The Job.”  But he’s just not rolling with the traction The Donald has…. right now.  This could change.  But here’s the problem.
The Donald is a big enough ass that if he doesn’t get the GOP Nomination – he will run 3rd Party.   If he does that, the Conservative Vote will be drastically split and ANY Democrat Candidate will win by a landslide just for showing up.  Which makes a President Bernie Sanders actually likely.  I think Hillary is going to go down, and that will leave the self proclaimed Socialist with a Cake Walk into the Oval Office…  Because the Government is leaning that way thanks to this 8 years of Obama.   Socialism has a very strong following and there are powers that be that want this.  It could happen.
This is what I am afraid of.   A blatant Socialist for our President. President Sanders.   Someone who will finish the destruction of the US Constitution, someone who will destroy the Bill of Rights.  And Bernie Sanders is just the guy that can figurehead this.   The man disgusts me to no end…. and I am throwing bones that show that this guy could actually become our President.  I feel sick to my stomach.
And it’s going to be because of Donald Trump… unless we back up Donald Trump and push his win.   Other 3rd party threats – not threats.  But a 3rd Party Trump?   We’re going to get Bernie Sanders.

Home Built

There’s been tons of chatter about using 3D Printers to build your own gun at home.  Unfortunately there’s a problem with these… and that’s quality.  3D Printed frames are just not that strong.  And if you can afford one of the big fancy metal printers that make strong parts… well, you could pretty much buy any numbers of guns you wanted for that astronomical price.  And even then, those parts are still not as strong as factory forged or cast frames.
Then there are the Ghost Gun mills.  That’s going to take your 80% Lower and finish it.  Or a block of material and carve out that AR lower for you.  That’s good.  Certainly a step up.  But that’s still not where I’d want to be… Even though I have seen some very good results.   It’s very limited.  A small CNC Mill is certainly where it’s at, but the Desk Top mills are not quiet there yet.

I like where this is going.  This article is about Plastic Casting.  And I think it’s got greater potential than current 3D Printers that are within reach of the DIY crowd.    If you can Cast plastic… You can cast Aluminum.  If you can cast Aluminum, you can cast steel.   There are videos on how to make your own forges and smelters and pretty much anything you need to melt metal.

Ruger builds some awesome firearms using a Cast process.  One that can be replicated on a small scale in your back yard.   Now here’s where this gets interesting… You can cast just about anything.  Any part.  The small parts you can’t cast, you can order in.

I’m really digging the exploration people are doing in the making it yourself movement.  We’ve seen some crazy cool things come of it.  I’m expecting any day now to see someone build something truly unique in their back yard.

Prosecute Hillary Now

Hillary Clinton needs to be prosecuted now.  Dragging this out to a point people get tired of hearing about it and the subject gets ignored – shows a clear message that the United States of America has different rules for you and The Elite.    As it stands right now, she could be convicted for:

Contempt of Congress.
Obstruction of Justice.
Destruction of Government Property.
Destruction of Government Records.
Theft of Classified Information.

These are all obvious charges…  Most of these charges could get you or I about 40 years in a Federal Hole.  And these should be very easy charges to prosecute and convict on.  If you or I were in Hillary’s shoes – we’d already be in prison.  But there is one more than needs to be considered with Hillary.  Espionage.

Espionage could be a bit trickier – but could have Hillary standing up against a wall or swinging from a rope.   And that’s not as far fetched as it seems off the cuff… and I think this might be why Hillary has done everything she can to withhold and destroy as much communication as possible.
She has a history of getting her hooks into secrets.  Missing FBI files were discovered on her desk, remember that?
What she’s doing with all her secrets, is what I would like to know.  But the fact that she’s collecting them for her own personal use, or using them as a leverage for international favors – doesn’t matter.  Espionage is a rather broad spectrum crime.   But it is a charge that can fit on Hillary’s shoulders.  We could have Johnny Walker level espionage here considering her dealings with Uranium and Russia.
For that to reach a conviction though, we will have to uncover some damning evidence.

In the mean time – Hillary could be rotting in a cell on all the other charges while the DOJ investigates Espionage.

Here’s the other thing…  She’s lied so much about these emails… What else has she lied about?   People are going to have to double check her entire record.

The Morality of Offense

I had some good conversations with Rob Morse of The Polite Society.  Rob was asking some good questions about he attacks in Chattanooga on the Recruiting Stations and this led to a good discussion that maybe – just maybe – we’re not training to the right Mindset in our Defensive courses.

Normally, any of the Traditional Martial Arts, and the Martial Arts with High Kinetic Energy all train with the notion that the best fight is the one you don’t get into.  Meaning that if you can avoid a fight, then do so by all means necessary.  But maybe that’s not the case anymore.

The classic crime we defend from is basically strong arm robbery, burglary,  maybe a home invasion, mugging, or car-jacking.  As bad as they are, they are no where near the level of the Mass-Shooting and Terror Attacks we’re seeing more and more of.  See, the good old fashioned crime, the Thug/Bad Guy/Scumbag/Threat; he’s after your Property.  Money.  Credit Cards.  Car.  Hubcaps… Stuff.  He wants your stuff.   In those cases, the Traditional methodology is correct.  Stuff can be replaced.  So drop your cash and run if running is an option.  Or toss your wallet and hit the gas.  If your in the back of the store and Thugs come in the front to hold up the place – escape out the back.  If you can, help others escape out the back while you cover their exit – and then you leave.  That’s the right thing to do.

But that’s no always the case anymore.  Now the Threat/Terrorist/Bad Guy isn’t after your Property.  They are after your life and lives of everyone else around you.  This is where it’s different.  Things have changed and dropping your stuff and bolting may or may not be the right answer anymore.  Let’s say you are armed and some maniac comes in with an AK-47 and starts shooting up the place.   You hear the shots, some people scream and chaos ensues.  You help some folks out the back exit and they run to safety.   Now, you are armed.  You have a decision to make.  Do you engage the threat or do you run away as well?

The Army taught us a simple phrase that has a lot of questions that go with it.  “The METT Dictates”.  METT means “Mission”, “Enemy”, “Terrain”, and “Time”.   So there are a lot of variables to consider in your exact situation, location and what the bad guy is doing.    Let’s say your in a familiar office setting.  Like the above situation you have helped people to safety.  You are armed with a pistol such as say, a S&W Bodyguard .380… which is a popular Concealed Carry Pistol, and one that is quite good.  The threat doesn’t know you are there and you know the building.  Should you take action or should you retreat?   I don’t know.  But your ability to engage and stop or delay that threat is really not all that great.  Maybe you should exfiltrate and go about your merry.

Now let’s say you are armed with a SIG 229 in .357 SIG in that same situation.  You have more capacity with a more accurate and more potent firearm.  You have a greater chance of stopping that threat.  Ending that rampage, or at least reducing that threat’s ability to rampage as effectively or freely.  This situation swings in your favor so you have that choice to make.  Do you stay and fight or do you withdraw?   What’s the right choice here?

Let’s look at the results of these shootings.  Almost all of the time, the threat is ended with confronted with with an armed resistance.  The shooter dies, surrenders, or turns his own gun on himself.  Either way – the threat is neutralized.    Or in some cases when the shooter runs out of people to kill, he then kills himself.

If he doesn’t end himself, and he’s not been stopped… we’ve seen them move on to another location to do more harm.  This is what happened with the Marine Recruiting Stations.  The Terrorist shoots up one place and having met no resistance, moves on to another location where he kills people.

At that scene a weapon was found that didn’t belong to the Shooter or the responding LEO’s.  It is guessed that someone in there used that firearm in self defense and the defense of others.  We don’t know all the details.  But we can imagine that the Warrior Spirits of those Marines compelled them to engage.  The shooter was killed.  Like I said – we don’t know what went down.  But what would have happened if this guy didn’t face any resistance there?  Would he have moved on to another military recruiting office?  Maybe a school or a mall?  We don’t know.  But giving what we’ve learned about this terrorist, it’s likely that he would not have stopped until someone else stopped him.

The Navy Yard in VA.  Fort Hood in Texas.  And other high profile terrorist acts… Trolley Square in SLC.  These  terroristic attacks ended when a good guy with a gun stopped that threat.

Given that situation, ask yourself; should you be ready to take an offensive defense and move to engage or should you flee?  Are you morally justified in moving to engage?   Here’s my take.  I think if you are in a position with the means and ability and a chance of stopping that terrorist then not only should you engage… but I feel that you have the moral obligation to do so.

Now, I’m not talking about your average Joe Snuffy CCW Permit Holder.  I’m talking about men and women who have take more advanced training and or have some good solid experience in shooting under stress.  Former Military or Law Enforcement.  That guys that shoot competitions.  The guys that might actually have a chance of ending that terrorist.  I’m talking about Sheepdogs.  You guys.  (Probably most everyone that reads my blog)  YOU have the moral obligation to fight.   Because if you don’t… who knows what else that terrorist is going to do.  But with all due respect to Senator Dianne Feinstein, Terrorists will not drop their weapons and walk away.   That doesn’t happen.  Ever.  Just the opposite in fact.  They are emboldened and energized and will do more harm than before.

This is a mind-set issue here.  We’re talking about moral responsibility and obligation to not just save yourself and family, but your neighbors as well.     Call the cops, yes.  But unless they are already there – you need to step up.   If a pan of grease on your stove ignites – sure you can call the Fire Department.   But it would be more effective and beneficial for everyone for you to put a lid on that pan and put that fire our yourself.
