Technology Enhanced

Gundoc and I are both now sporting new HTC Sensation smart phones.  These things do freaking everything.  2 dual core processors that make this cell phone faster than most of the computers I’ve ever owned.  Certainly faster than my HP Mini Netbooks.

Glympse, so my Homies know where I’m rolling when I am in SLC – or going to and from SLC.  Google Doc, so I can write Uprising as I am inspired.  1080P Video that can upload straight to YouTube so when I’m out at the range, blowing things up with some firepower from Crusader Weaponry – I can show it off.  More product highlights from The Gun Counter.  All that.

Oh, and better yet – Crusader Students can actually get a hold of me when they are lost trying to find The Training Range. It’s all good like that.   Speaking of Training, we’re going to be doing a couple training classes after GunDoc and I spend a little time Sharpening our Skills with Massad Ayoob at his MAG-40 Class.  Instructors are Perpetual Students themselves, and If my edge is dull, I can’t sharpen yours.  So look at the Crusader Weaponry website and Facebook Page for those classes.

Crusader’s Demo Broadsword .308 Carbine

Crusader Weaponry is almost done with our new Broadsword Carbine Demo Gun.  This gun is for Gun Writer Reviews.  From this point previous, every photo you’ve seen of a Broadsword has been a Customer’s Gun.  We’ve just not had the time and the parts to do a gun for just Demo Purposes.

This gun is going to be going out to the Writers sporting a new optic.  I’ve talked to a few optic companies and they were willing to send us some normal run of the mill optics… which is precisely what we didn’t want.  We wanted something unique.

Kruger Optics stepped up and is sending us a Prototype of their DTS Gen II optic.  Check it out here.  The concept is brilliant and I think it has huge potential.  Now, this unit is a Prototype and not a Production unit, but it should work just fine.  We’re looking forward to checking this thing out.  Just looking at this thing – I want to love it.

Order your Sterling Optics Mounts

A set of mounts is $99.99.
Sounds expensive? Our man Jesse is making them pretty much by hand, so that takes some time. Jesse stepped up to develop these and he did it the old fashioned way, so he has earned some due, know what I mean? Then the mounts are shipped to Crusader HQ for Finishing. Default is Black or they can be Duracoated in the color of your Crusader Sterling. OD Green, Battleship Grey, Coyote Tan, Fertile Earth, Bacon Strip Brown, or Tactical Pink.  What ever you want, we don’t care, and we wont judge you.  We don’t color match anything though so don’t send us any swatches.  If I say that’s the color – that’s the frakking color.  Fusia?  That’s Ninja Grey to us.  We only have a few colors in our crayola box so slow your roll.  Who said Plaid?  Go to the corner.
If you order a Sterling, you can order the Mounts with it and it will be coated and affixed for you. Because Because we’re nice guys like that.  Because the install is kind of a PITA.

Care Package for the Troops

Crusader Weaponry is putting together a care package for some troops. This time around, the package is going to some Air Force EOD Techs. Specifically to our good friend “Nightcrawler” and his compadres.
The Air Force is pulling more than their share of the EOD work load. From the casualties being sustained, it’s one of the most dangerous occupations in the military right now. They need some gear and supplies.  Crusader will be donating a bunch of Slipstream, which is being used in weapons and robots over there right now.  But the other gear is stuff we don’t have.

If you want to contribute, contact Joe at CrusasaderWeaponry.   Or you can just send some money via PayPal.  crusaderarmory@live.com

Crusader Sterling with Optics Mount

This is one of our Crusader Sterling Carbines. Mine, actually. Caliber is 9mm. This is a semi auto version of the classic Sterling SMG used by Brit Commandos in hostile actions after WWII. The Crusader version has perminant lubrication treatment, and is built with careful parts selection and refitting and finishing of those parts, making these the smoothest Sterlings I’ve ever handled.
We have an Optics Mount now, standard Picatinny, to mount pretty much any optic you want. In this video is a Bushnell Trophy T that we just put on there for testing. It’s a more solid mounting than what is typically put on a .300 RUM hunting rifle, so it’s going to stand up to pretty much anything a 9mm Buzz Gun can dish out. These mounts will be available with futur Sterling orders as a cost added option, or as a stand alone product to order.
This unit, being a prototype, is left in the raw and unfinished. Standard orders will ship flat black. If you order yours with a Sterling finished in another color, it will be duracoated or cerakoted in that color.
The shot group at the end of the clip shows a 25 yard group with bulk reloaded ammo.

.270 Redding Broadsword

Looking for “That Edge” for my own custom build on a Crusader Broadsword.  One caliber came up that had me thinking “Hmmm”.  See, I’m looking for a configuration for a Hunting Broadsword… that can be legitimately used for hunting North American Big Game that will give good performance across the board with good bullet selections for the widest array of game animals… and it not be .308 Winchester.

The .270 Redding.  An improvement over the standard .270-08 Wildcat.  In an AR this would be solid.  See, you can get 3000 FPS out of a Short Action, in this case, out of an AR… which is only 60 FPS slower than the same bullet out of a .270 Winchester rifle.

LOADING DATA .270 REDDING
SPEER 130 GR GRAND SLAM BULLET
Powder Start Velocity Maximum Velocity
N-150 45.0 grs. 2,923 fps 47.0 grs. 3,053 fps

Mild recoil, good trajectory, good terminal ballistics…  This gives us a much better trajectory thanks to it being faster than the 7mm-08 that would normally be the go-to choice for me.

Considering a new AR build.

I think I want another AR, build by Crusader Weaponry of course… but I think I’m going to do something a little different.

Being a Gun Counter guy at the best stocked gun counter in the western states, I see a lot of AR-15 builds in a lot of different configurations and normally I’ve just glossed over them, and everything in all the catalogs.  But there is one that I keep coming back to… it’s not one we’ve stocked… but the idea of it is sticking in my head like a naughty idea.  I keep looking at the Bushmaster MOE Dissipator.  What I like about it is the longer sight radius for when using irons… and the longer gas tube, which does come good things for the gun’s longevity.  Mostly a slightly lower cyclic rate which reduces wear and tear slightly.   What a great looking gun… and it fits the way I shoot.  I like that.  A lot.  I think I need a Crusader build along those lines.

Also along these lines, I’m about ready to just sell my Surefire Quad Rails and the Surefire Weapons Light, Mount, tape switch and everything.   Hell, I’m about ready to just trade someone straight across for an MOE handguard with 2 rail section and a MX3 light.  Weight.  I’m tired of the weight.   As much as I love my M4’s accuracy, I’m sick of lugging that thing.  It is a heavy beast.  Of course I have the heavy barrel as well, which isn’t helping, but at least I could trim some mass off my primary weapon… couldn’t hurt.  (BTW, this wasn’t a Crusader Build)

Crusader’s ST-2 Treatment

We’ve talked about the ST-1 Treatment a lot. That’s a permanent application of out Slipstream to the Bolt Carrier Group, Buffer, Spring, and Charging Handle.
The ST-2 treatment makes a huge difference. Because now you also get the trigger group, all the insides of the lower receiver, and inside the upper receiver. This is important because it slicks up the bearing surfaces where the bolt rides and he charging handle. Don’t get me wrong, ST-1 is worth it… but the ST-2 is on a whole other level. It blows other treatments, such as FailZero out of the water so hard, it isn’t even funny.
