I’m thinking of a Marlin 1895 “Trapper”, much like this one:
However, I’d like it with a blued barrel and magazine tube, stainless receiver, and walnut stocks. The peep sights from Wild West Guns in Alaska, and a Big Loop.
Hmmm… Perhaps – also – maybe 336 version in .30-30 Win.

Remington R1, another look.
I’ve taken a closer look at the Remington R1 1911 pistol. Six of them, actually. When they first came out, my impression was favorable. I liked them. And I wanted to still like them. For 699 they seemed to be a great deal. And for some, meaning Remington Fanboys, they still are.
Closer examination of the R1 reveals a shortcoming I didn’t expect from Remington. When I stripped them down and looked closely at the internals, I didn’t like what I saw. The internal machining was sub-par. A 450 dollar ATI has better machining. A Taurus has better machining inside. Though for 699, you do get to beat your chest about “American Made”… right alongside Charter Arms, Auto Ordinance, and Hi-Point. Great.
The good news is that Para USA is now making guns in the USA. So if you want a Remington R1… Buy a Para USA Wild Bunch.
What is so great about Slipstream?
I get this question a lot. If you have read Crusader Weaponry’s page, you know it’s a double edged sword against Friction. The base carrier oil is a fully synthetic oil that is in and of its self, outstanding and can go toe to toe against any other synthetic gun oil. That’s just straight up good stuff. But we want something better… So we went outside of the Gun Industry. We found a type of nano-particle that does everything we want, and more. No one else is using it, because it’s prohibitively expensive. They look for cheaper materials so they can make profit. We don’t make Slipstream to make Profit… we only make about a buck off each bottle. I’m not even kidding. We make it because we want the best lubricant possible. Dealers don’t like Slipstream… because of the low profit margins on it. They can make more money selling lesser lubricants because they don’t care about Coefficients of Friction and Reliability – they are there to make money.
Technology Enhanced
Gundoc and I are both now sporting new HTC Sensation smart phones. These things do freaking everything. 2 dual core processors that make this cell phone faster than most of the computers I’ve ever owned. Certainly faster than my HP Mini Netbooks.
Glympse, so my Homies know where I’m rolling when I am in SLC – or going to and from SLC. Google Doc, so I can write Uprising as I am inspired. 1080P Video that can upload straight to YouTube so when I’m out at the range, blowing things up with some firepower from Crusader Weaponry – I can show it off. More product highlights from The Gun Counter. All that.
Oh, and better yet – Crusader Students can actually get a hold of me when they are lost trying to find The Training Range. It’s all good like that. Speaking of Training, we’re going to be doing a couple training classes after GunDoc and I spend a little time Sharpening our Skills with Massad Ayoob at his MAG-40 Class. Instructors are Perpetual Students themselves, and If my edge is dull, I can’t sharpen yours. So look at the Crusader Weaponry website and Facebook Page for those classes.
Marlin Firearms
I’ve mentioned the issues I’ve seen with rifles from Marlin, say the last 2 years. Sloppy fits, poor assembly, bad fitting parts/stocks, and wood on the butt stock that looked like it came from a different species of tree than the fore end. Just not a gun I’d recommend to anyone.
Well, last couple of months we’ve been getting in new Marlins. And I’m very pleased to say that each one has been better than I’ve ever seen from Marlin before. The quality is there. These are the best guns ever to have the Marlin name. The fit and finish are outstanding.
Chickenbutthead
There is this new hairstyle going around… it’s very popular. Girls are turning up all over the place with it. It’s “Bobbed” but shorter up the back (giving the impressing of tail feathers), and longer on the sides (giving the impression of wings). It looks like a Chicken that just got ravaged by a Rooster. It’s the stupidest hairstyle I’ve ever seen. Girls, why do you want your head to look like you’ve been Rooster Raped? Seriously. Don’t do that to your head. It’s not Cute, or Sassy, it’s freaking Retarded.
Buckethead
So I may need a new helmet now. I took a 5 gallon bucket to the face at 75MPH. It almost took me off my bike. I was/am unhurt. It blew out of the back of a truck and nailed me. It happened so fast, I didn’t see it coming. If I had got a half helmet type – I’d be dead. I’m sure of that. As it is, I’m just fine, because God loves Ogres and I live right and the well wishes of my friends and family all worked. So, no worries.
Well, the impact was pretty good and I’m concerned about the integrity of the helmet now. I think I need a new one.

Crusader’s Demo Broadsword .308 Carbine
Crusader Weaponry is almost done with our new Broadsword Carbine Demo Gun. This gun is for Gun Writer Reviews. From this point previous, every photo you’ve seen of a Broadsword has been a Customer’s Gun. We’ve just not had the time and the parts to do a gun for just Demo Purposes.
This gun is going to be going out to the Writers sporting a new optic. I’ve talked to a few optic companies and they were willing to send us some normal run of the mill optics… which is precisely what we didn’t want. We wanted something unique.
Kruger Optics stepped up and is sending us a Prototype of their DTS Gen II optic. Check it out here. The concept is brilliant and I think it has huge potential. Now, this unit is a Prototype and not a Production unit, but it should work just fine. We’re looking forward to checking this thing out. Just looking at this thing – I want to love it.
England
The UK likes to put on the Holier Than Though attitude over the USA. They like to think of themselves as more intelligent and more sophisticated than us “Colonials”. The events in the UK in the recent turmoil seem to show otherwise.
Yes, we have had some riots… such as the Rodney King riots in LA. And some looting such as after Katrina. But those were kicked off by some event or disaster… and then they were limited to one city. In the UK it started over pretty much nothing and seems to have been spreading all over Great Britain. Baseball Bats are in high demand.
Stiff upper lip, Chaps.
A shout out to Big O Holsters
Owen McPhillips has sent us a Holster. I’ve been waiting to get my ATI Commander back from Cerakoting before I took some photos and did a review. Well, Joe’s only going to do my gun when we get a pause in the orders. So part of me never wants to see it again! (But I totally do) Contact him for pricing and lead times. I’ve packed my Commander in this rig and it carried great. Just the right positioning and angle. It’s a solid holster. Now, Owen wouldn’t want me to say this, but I’m going to.
His daughter is suffering from cancer and the medical bills have piled up. He doesn’t want charity, but he would love to make you a holster.
Check out the holster:
