Ah… that’s much better…

Nice rosewood double diamonds, with some character.

I sold a 1911 to a fellow who wanted to install a set of Crimson Trace Grips.  So that’s what I did.   I offered 10 bucks to the fellow for his “old” grips.  He took me up on it.  So now my ATI Commander has a decent set of wood grips.  Looks much nicer… what do you think?

Compare that to the old grips…

A Commander 1911 .45... My biggest weakness.

Also, the old grips were squared off at the bottom and the new ones have a nice beveled touch to it.  Much much better.

Scouts (updated)

I’ve spoken before about Scout Rifles in general and some specifically.  The biggest thing going right now is the Ruger Gunsite Scout.  Now, just because something is big now, doesn’t mean it’s all that great, just inexplicably popular.  Remember, last year a Snookie was pretty big… I don’t know what that is, but evidently it washed up on the shore in Jersey.  It should probably be thrown back in… But I digress.

The Army’s New Carbine Competition

The US Army is going to hold a new Carbine Competition.   This weapon will be replacing the M-4 Carbine.  I suspect adoption will occur in 2013 or ’14… but the question is which gun is going to take it.  All the major players are gearing up for this.   Colt, HK, FNH, Remington, Beretta even has one, and Robinson will throw their XCR up again…. there will undoubtedly be others as well.

The most interesting one, in my opinion is the Remington ACR.  I’d love to see that one adopted in 6.8SPC.   The new Beretta looks awesome, but I think it looks a bit too delicate, and I but there is an accuracy issue with it.  The XCR doesn’t interest me much… the SCAR didn’t make a whole lot of friends who were actually using it in combat and got its self de-funded.  The Colt is just another AR type… and the future M4A1 is essentially just an M4 with a heavier barrel and ambi controls.   If SHOT Show was any indication as to where the DOD Brass was… it was all around Remington.  I think they are going to take it.  I don’t see anyone else really stepping up and taking this one home.

Japan

We have friends in Japan.  So when we first heard of the massive quakes there, we’ve been glued to the news and have followed every story, and watched every video.  Contact has been made with everyone and all of our friends are alright.    Thank God.   We continue to pray for the people of Japan.

I’ve been asked by a few readers, how they can help.   The answer there is the same as in all the other disasters… The Red Cross.

After Katrina there was some stink about the Red Cross in their use of Katrina funds.   You know what?  I don’t care.  My Grandparents where Red Cross Volunteers for years and years and they went all over helping people in dire needs… that’s what the Red Cross does and outside of Governments, they are the biggest dog in the fight.  They are a great organization.   If you want to do something to help Japan, contact the Red Cross.

Japan has been an important ally to the US and our Economies are tied together like we were a married couple.  Even tighter than our ties with the UK.  We need to help Japan to stand back up… get them on their feet again.   Japan is a part of us… and they need us… Please, donate everything you can.  Do what you can.

Beretta’s new 90-Two

Back in 2006 at the SHOT Show, I saw Beretta’s new 90-Two pistol.  Forgive me for saying this, but I think the name is stone cold retarded.  This is a different handgun than the 92, yet they are pronounced the same.  Thank you Mr. Too Clever For Your Own Good… This is about as good of a name as the FN Five-seveN pistol, but at least the FN isn’t being confused with any other handgun.  Brilliant move, Beretta.
