This is why – Right Here.

We put a lot of effort into Slipstream, for not a lot of reward.  But this right here… this is why:

Hi, I was one of the recon marines who was lucky enough to get a couple bottles of your slipstream weapon lube in Afghanistan this spring. I just wanted to take a minute to thank you for sending it out there for us. We really appreciated the support, and the fact that it worked a couple thousand times better than CLP was awesome too! I know for a fact that I put 200 rounds through a dirty M4 in about a minute on full auto and didn’t foul once. Thank you.

No, Thank You…. For your Service and your Sacrifices for our Nation… thank you very much.  God be with you, and not those heathen bastards you much smite.

Winchester 94-22M Temptation

We have a Winchester 94-22m .22 Magnum that came in on trade.  It’s sporting a nice peep sight set up, nice checkered wood stocks… really nice looking.  From a distance.  Up close the gun is ugly.  Pitting everywhere and the wood has more dings than I’ve ever seen.  Some are unfortunately too deep to fix, and wood was amazing.  New, this rifle would have been stunning.

The temptation is to restore it.  No collector value, that’s just gone.  This would be a rescue.

First time.

I just had my first book signing.  At the Bitter Creek Bookstore, in Vernal.
Pretty cool.  No big thing in the grand scheme of things… But for your humble little Ogre, kind of a monumental event.

Holding my book in my hand for the first time… It was sweet. Made it “real”.

Pull over.

Gotta love the Highway Patrol.  60 in a 60… All my papers in order… I was still held for 20 minutes while the guy ran everything. Nothing he could get me for. But I did get a warning for not pulling over far enough.  Great.

A Ride to Washington.

I might kick off the start of Autumn by a motorcycle ride to Washington State.  There is only one doctor in the world that I have any trust in, and he’s in Washington.  I am considering this trip… But I don’t know yet.

I’m not sure as to what route I’d go, but I’m thinking north up through to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, then through Spokane into Seattle.  I would burn up all my vacation days… and I’d take my time.  On this ride.  No rush.  No hurry.  No Conquering the Road like in trips past.  Just an easy ride through the Pacific Northwest.

Uprising Updates

I updated the Uprising Page.  New information there, and a possible new cover for Uprising UK.   I noticed that the big book sellers had a pricing war going on, Amazon had it for one price, then B&N had it for a lower price, so Amazon dropped it… now it’s only 12.20 from either company.  E-book prices are lower still of course.

Books for me to Autograph are in route and should be here soon for me to sign in blood… or just Red Ink… then I’ll ship them all back to the publisher for distribution.

I’ve been asked about Book Signings at the stores like Larry does.  Guys, Larry’s a freaking Author/Rockstar.  Not only do guys line up to get their books inked by the man, other Authors are begging him to Tag Team with him.  Larry walks the Earth with Large Strides.  Deservedly so.  He’s earned those Kudos the hard way.   Me?  I’m no “Larry Freaking Correia”.    Honestly, I don’t want the attention.  I tell you what… If you see me at the Range, and you want me to ink your book… I’d be happy to do so.    But don’t act like Larry’s fans… Girls pulling off their small clothes and throwing them at Larry… Guys pulling out their armor plates throwing them at Larry… No… Don’t do that.  Uprising is no great work of literature, it’s just a lark.  Now if you want to give me Ammo… by all means.

However I am putting much more effort into UK and it’s going to be a much better book on all counts.  As jazzed as I am for Uprising USA to be out there and people reading it and enjoying it for what it is – Awesome – I’m all the more jazzed for Uprising UK.

Remington R1, another look.

I’ve taken a closer look at the Remington R1 1911 pistol.  Six of them, actually.  When they first came out, my impression was favorable.  I liked them.  And I wanted to still like them.  For 699 they seemed to be a great deal.  And for some, meaning Remington Fanboys, they still are.

Closer examination of the R1 reveals a shortcoming I didn’t expect from Remington.  When I stripped them down and looked closely at the internals, I didn’t like what I saw.  The internal machining was sub-par.  A 450 dollar ATI has better machining.  A Taurus has better machining inside. Though for 699, you do get to beat your chest about “American Made”… right alongside Charter Arms, Auto Ordinance, and Hi-Point.  Great.

The good news is that Para USA is now making guns in the USA.  So if you want a Remington R1… Buy a Para USA Wild Bunch.
