Cool Rims

The lowly .22LR is the most common and popular of the rimfire category… and the stuff that comes out for it is pretty amazing.  I find myself in modes where it’s almost like I consider a .22LR to be a “Kid’s Gun” or something.  Honestly, I think since I got a .17HMR, I’ve only fired about a dozen rounds of .22LR.

But .22’s are not just for kids anywhere, not by a long shot.   .22’s are getting serious.  We’ve seen the .22 Colts and M&P 15-22, and of course the plethora of modification options for the Ruger 10/22…  But what you are about to see here… These are just staggeringly cool on a whole new level. North Dakota is booming

I’m happy that North Dakota is having a good boom time with the oil rush. Their economy is roaring.

And ours here is withering.  Because 3,000 jobs from here went directly there.  Jobs shut down here and opened there directly because of policy from the Obama Administration.  Because of the actions of Ken “The Loathsome Cowboy” Salazar specifically.  A lot of Utah residents are working N.D. right now… I’ve talked to several guys just today that are working over there.  Companies fly them back and forth.  Making great money.  Pumping their economy up like an balloon.

Utah Schools is looking at deep cuts.  All the County Governments are looking at deep cuts.  Utah is tightening its belt, big time.    But North Dakota is booming.   “Hey, Ken!  Where are those Oil Leases people PAID FOR?  Where’s the Money, Ken?”  If you didn’t want people drilling there – then don’t put those areas up for lease!  Just a thought.  Friggen thief.

I’m not bitter against N.D.   Not at all… good for them… but the way this shook out is outrageous.

Ah… that’s much better…

Nice rosewood double diamonds, with some character.

I sold a 1911 to a fellow who wanted to install a set of Crimson Trace Grips.  So that’s what I did.   I offered 10 bucks to the fellow for his “old” grips.  He took me up on it.  So now my ATI Commander has a decent set of wood grips.  Looks much nicer… what do you think?

Compare that to the old grips…

A Commander 1911 .45... My biggest weakness.

Also, the old grips were squared off at the bottom and the new ones have a nice beveled touch to it.  Much much better.

Scouts (updated)

I’ve spoken before about Scout Rifles in general and some specifically.  The biggest thing going right now is the Ruger Gunsite Scout.  Now, just because something is big now, doesn’t mean it’s all that great, just inexplicably popular.  Remember, last year a Snookie was pretty big… I don’t know what that is, but evidently it washed up on the shore in Jersey.  It should probably be thrown back in… But I digress.

The Army’s New Carbine Competition

The US Army is going to hold a new Carbine Competition.   This weapon will be replacing the M-4 Carbine.  I suspect adoption will occur in 2013 or ’14… but the question is which gun is going to take it.  All the major players are gearing up for this.   Colt, HK, FNH, Remington, Beretta even has one, and Robinson will throw their XCR up again…. there will undoubtedly be others as well.

The most interesting one, in my opinion is the Remington ACR.  I’d love to see that one adopted in 6.8SPC.   The new Beretta looks awesome, but I think it looks a bit too delicate, and I but there is an accuracy issue with it.  The XCR doesn’t interest me much… the SCAR didn’t make a whole lot of friends who were actually using it in combat and got its self de-funded.  The Colt is just another AR type… and the future M4A1 is essentially just an M4 with a heavier barrel and ambi controls.   If SHOT Show was any indication as to where the DOD Brass was… it was all around Remington.  I think they are going to take it.  I don’t see anyone else really stepping up and taking this one home.
