McQueen was the King of Cool

Steve McQueen was the coolest man on earth. I’m not going to write a Bio, but trust me… the man was Cool Personified.
He was a Hollywood Actor as his Job, but when he wasn’t acting – he was out there in the world doing cool stuff all the time. Racing cars and motorcycles is seriously cool. High Octane and Awesomeness flowed in his veins. Even when he wasn’t doing cool stuff, he was just chilling at home – being cool. If Chuck Norris is the King of Asskicking… and could kick everyone’s ass on the planet… He couldn’t touch McQueen, because McQueen only had to given him a look of disdain and disappointment that would leave Norris in quivering ball of tears and vomit.
The world is much less cool because of the loss of Steve McQueen. This was the cause of Global Warming. Ask NASA.
So what actor could possibly replace Steve McQueen as being the new Super Cool?
Clooney? Depp? Not hardly. The new Bond Guy? Getting closer… but that’s not him… I think there is a guy – and he is pretty damn cool in real life.
Eric Bana.   Look at his movies… awesome stuff… and he races.  I think Eric Bana is the Heir to Cool.

Yesterdays shooting

One thing that I failed to mention… Jim’s .45-70 Marlin was crazy smooth.  The action felt like a Henry Goldenboy, it was so slick.  None of the rough grittyness that is typical of a Marlin, in any caliber.
My own Marlins never felt half as good.  My Rossi M92 .44 Mag feels really slick and smooth… But not like Jim’s.  He’s been running Slipstream for a long time through that gun, letting it really work in.  Mine will get that way eventually, given some more time.  You feel the new Marlins we have at the store… Slipstream makes a new one feel just plain sad.
Marlin should be using Slipstream at the factory. Just saying.  Because they would then be smoother than a Browning BLR…

Going to Georgia

March 10th and 11th, there is a big Gun Show in Atlanta. I will be there with Mark Walters, and we will be signing books, meeting people, having a great time with the fans of Armed American Radio and Uprising USA, Uprising UK. Georgia Carry Members need to come by and say howdy!

Another failed electric car.

Aptera motors.  Belly up.  The idea behind the Aptera was pretty good.  By excessively streamlining everything to get the most efficiency possible by reducing as much drag as possible, allows the car to get the most movement from the motivation.

The problem with the Aptera car is that it’s pretty much a standard electric.  Plug it in, charge it up, drive for a couple miles, then you have to plug it back in.   If you live in a city and only need to drive a couple miles to work and back… well.. maybe then such electric cars could work for you. But where I live, this sort of E-Car is pretty much completely useless.

Here is the layout that would work… and it’s simple, rugged, and reliable.  In fact, this system is used daily, all over the country.  Trains. We use a small, efficient diesel engine that spins a large flywheel.  The flywheel turns a generator which charges a bank of batteries.  The power then goes to the four electric motors.  One powering each wheel.  This gives the car an active computer controlled all wheel drive system so the car could actually be decent to drive.  Now, we add in some regenerative braking and efficiency is improved.

I’ve talked about this sort of electric car before, only to have some shoot the idea down because they thought I was talking about putting the electric motors in the wheels.  No, in the car, but not in the wheels.

Okay, so hands raised in the back of the room… yes.  You.  “You’re still burning fuel, how is this more efficient than a regular car?”  That’s a great question.  Talking about a car’s efficiency, the biggest drain on it is the transmission.  This layout doesn’t have one. Right there, there is a great deal of gain in efficiency.  Also, the computer system could control the engine’s RPM’s and fuel consumption based on output requirement, or even shut it down all together.   This system doesn’t require anything to be plugged in, to be recharged, and it can be driven farther than any other electric.  Unlike other hybrid systems, like the Prius… this is a true hybrid system… the petroleum powered engine doesn’t drive the wheels at all… and it doesn’t have a transmission. Which makes this system more efficient than any of those.  Also, it needs fewer heavy batteries.  So this type of car could actually be fun to drive… might even handle.  And like Cousin Jeremy is always concerned about, it could go around a corner.

Two Tones

On WeTheArmed, I posted a picture and asked a simple question.  “Which one?”

The Top One, or the Bottom One?

In the thread, several guys liked the one on top, but overwhelmingly, people were digging the one on the bottom better. I like them both… At first I liked the top one as it has that classic “Custom” look that I dig… dark on top.  But the bottom one… it grew on me and I see why everyone liked it.  The lighter weight alloy frame, practical long wearing stainless… It’s certainly the smartest configuration.  It would be awesome… but I still like the top one… just for the looks of it.  See, growing up, all the custom guns (1911’s) were two tones, blued slides on stainless frames.   That’s just the look that’s stuck with me.

The question is, how to I get one like that?  Beretta doesn’t offer it and I don’t want to buy two.  I don’t know why I am jonesing for a 92… but I am.  Really, it’s the only 9mm, other than a Browning High Power that I want.  Er… those and a SIG P210… and a Colt Pocket Nine… and… and… and… I’m kind of an addict, aint I?

I’m seeing a pattern here.

Check this news out.  The Ft. Hood shooter was a “Work Place Violence” issue, not Domestic Terrorism.

China is ramping up for War.  Getting ready to throw down.   Our side’s response?  “No one is looking for a scrap here.”  No, not here… but over there, they sure as hell are!

The ATF’s project Fast and Furious, which is giving the Drug Cartels lots of high powered weapons they are using against us now… is to make American Gun Owners look bad.

Do you see the pattern here?  The US Government doesn’t know what the hell they are doing and they have no common sense.  It’s a wonder that the streets of DC, inside the Beltway, isn’t littered with the bodies of drowned Government Workers every time it rains.
