Editing

So I’m working on editing my book getting it ready for publication.  I’ve come to the conclusion that editing on the screen of a Netbook is far more grinding than editing normally is.  This makes it slow.  As soon as this editing is done, I’ll be working on the cover.  I’m going to do a photo type cover.  Staging, costume, make up… and asking the Utah National Guard for the use of some Military Assets.

As soon as I can finish the editing.   I hate editing.   I hate editing on a Netbook at least 3 times as much.

X-Bolt Composit Stalker

Browning is sending me an X-Bolt Stalker in .300WSM.  Nikon has sent me a Monarch 3-12 BDC.  I have the scope, still in the box, and unopened.   The rifle will be sent to me, according to Browning, in June.    This is a great package for hunting North American Big Game. I’m pretty jaded about rifles, but the new X-Bolts have impressed the hell out of me.  I really like the way they feel and balance, and the accuracy has been awesome out of every X-Bolt I’ve seen.  However, I don’t need this rifle.  What I need is a good laptop for processing video.  Oh, I want it… I’d love it… seriously… but I need a good laptop.

One of my favorite reads, for free.

Got a message from my good friend and author Marcus Wynne.  He is offering up his first book for free.  I’ve spoken of Marcus’ works in the past.  He is an extraordinary writer of gritty action, and I enjoy his writing a great deal.  It’s actually his fault entirely that I’ve been jonesing hard for a Browning High Power.

The book is NO OTHER OPTION.  To get the book for free, use code:  KU25Y

If I could pick 5 authors to back me up in a fight, Marcus would be in that small group.  That means he knows what it is that he’s talking about.  Authentic knowledge.  Marcus knows of which he speaks.  He has been there, done that.  He could be one scary dude if you didn’t know him.  But he’s a great guy and one of the most noble men I know.  Get his book.  Read it.  The get all his others.

Bush was drunk? Okay, let’s go there…

I’m tired of hearing from Liberals that Bush was such an idiot.  Bush graduated with an MBA from Harvard.  Unless you did the same or equivalent, STFU.  “But Bush was a drunk in college.”  Okay…  Let’s go there.  Let’s say that’s true.  Bush did better drunk than his critics did sober… so again, STFU.

MHI: The Series

Congratulations to Larry Correia… he just sold the TV rights to MHI.  I think a TV show is likely.   Larry first gave me word of this at SHOT Show while on the way to get some chow… he said that it was in the works, but nothing finalized.  Well, now it’s a done deal.   That’s awesome.

All I gotta say… I want to be in the cast!

Progressive

I used to hear about Progressive Rifling in old guns from years gone by.  I don’t hear about them anymore…  Which to me seems odd. With modern precision machining, it should be much easier to produce a good Progressive Rifled barrel.

The advantage of this would be much like a Back Bored barred in a shotgun… Less felt recoil and a higher shot velocity.  Who wouldn’t want this in a rifle?  I guess the modern Polygonal Rifling pretty much does the same thing, and it’s easier to achieve, but not everyone likes the stuff.  I know several guys that have a healthy distrust of any barrel that doesn’t have traditional lands and grooves.

I could especially see an advantage in a progressive barrel in calibers that prefer a long free bore… such as most of the Weatherby calibers.  In a traditional rifled barrel, the bullet is slammed into the rifling a torqued around rather suddenly into the twisted rifling.  This problem increased as the freebore is increased.  This slamming can cause deformity in bullets and inconsistent pressures if the bullet is seated at eve slightly different depths.  Progressive Rifling would slowly turn the bullet into an increasingly accelerating twist until the bullet leaves the barrel at the desired twist rate… and balance the pressure curves, thereby helping to increase accuracy.    With increased velocity and accuracy… that would allow the full potential of any cartridge fired from it.

Lesson Learned…

The Barrett M82A1’s rail has a built in 20MOA can’t built in.   This was known.

The Nikon M223 Mount has a 20MOA cant built in.  This was NOT known.  (It’s not on the packaging anywhere, but it is on the website)

As it turns out, 40MOA of incline doesn’t work.  Unless you want to be 5 feet high at 500 yards with the scope adjusted to it’s full range of movement… yeah… that’s not good.

Bin Laden is Dead!

Fox just reported Bin Laden has been killed.   WOOT!

Different news sources are putting out different stories about it… he was shot in the head, he was hit in an airstrike, he was killed in Afghanistan, he was killed in Pakistan, he was killed this afternoon, the was killed a week ago…  Yada yada yada…  Doesn’t matter.  The SOB is now DOA.  Retribution was delivered.  Justice has been served.

Some reactions is that now the terrorists will be all the more hostile.  Really?  Oh, they want to kill us even more deader than before?  Care a lot.  The message is that we will get you and we will never stop hunting you… because that is how you deal with terrorists – you kill them.  I say we feed his corpse to some hogs.  Done with it.    There is no making friends with the Terrorists.  There are no moderate terrorists to worry about being nice to.  We find them, and we kill them.  That’s why we sent the Military after them, not the FBI.
