Pelican Lake Cafe

The Pelican Lake Cafe is located overlooking the Pelican Lake, it’s a bit out of the way but well worth the detour.  If you are traveling along Highway 40, between Roosevelt and Vernal, Utah, take a turn to the south onto highway 88 heading to Ouray and Pelican Lake.  Stay on that road for about 10 mile and you can’t miss it.

If you see this sign, pull in.

The food is Good and Plenty at a very reasonable price.  The breakfast burritos are shockingly good and the Burgers are absolutely the best in the state save for the Buffalo Burger at the Bohemian Brewery in Murray. What gives Pelican the edge though… the bun.  Its fantastic.

I sold a cool tactical shotgun to the owner and we talked about his cafe and the food there… He’s proud of his place and justly so.  Very cool guy.  Stop in, eat a burger (or his favorite, the Chicken Taco) and tell him that the Ogre sent you.

I bring this up again, because I took two of my boys there to grab a bite.  It was well worth the drive.

I’ve been getting a lot of emails from readers of Uprising: USA.  Lots of questions about the story that I would love to answer, but I can’t give anything away.   Every character is either someone I know, or based on someone I know.  The names of my family members have been changed or I’m using a Call Sign for them.  For example, my wife’s name is not Debbie and my eldest Son is not named Kilo.

In Uprising UK,  the most common questions about April is answered very quickly.  Guys, Gals… please don’t take that too seriously.  This is indeed a work of fiction.

Some thoughts from someone at War.

One of our friends over in one of our active War Zones sent us some of this thoughts:

-Massive reduction in the number of general officer positions.
-Closing of most European bases.  Eventual goal of no US land forces permanently stationed in any European Union country.  All bases in the UK, Italy, and Turkey would be closed immediately.  Bases in Germany would remain for the time being.
-The United States would unilaterally withdraw from NATO.  That organization is a useless Cold War dinosaur.  All it does now is have the United States protect decadent Western European countries from a threat that isn’t there anymore.

Just what the Nation needs

Our Administration seems to really know how to screw things up.  When the economy is as shaky as it is…

They are going to start closing down power plants.    Brown-outs, higher costs, this is going to kick our nation in the sweets.  We need Power and Industry to keep our Nation moving and prospering.  This administration seems to want to strangle that.  If their goal is to ruin our country – they are doing a great job.

Time for a New Deck for your Race Cards

Congratulations to the Latino Community.  The State of Utah has elevated Latinos from a Minority to “White”.  Yes, all of you Latinos might be “Beaners” in other States… but in Utah, you are White just like every other Cracker here. At least when it comes to buying firearms.

On the ATF Form 4473, there are the required Race Boxes.  Everyone must be shoehorned into a different category to fit in a check box.  Now, Utah dealers would then take that form and go to the computer and log into the BCI’s secure Web Check.  There are other races to select save for Latino… Asian, Pacific Islander, Alaskan Native… yada yada yada but not Latino.  There was a box for “Unknown”.  Most dealers would just select that.   Well, know it’s established that Latinos are still Latino on the 4473, according to the Feds, but they are White according to the state of Utah.

I am of the opinion that this system needs to be revamped.  We should have more selections… for example, I’m Celtic… a mix of Scot and Irish.  There is no Celtic check box.  What about the different white folks from Eastern Europe that are not Celtic? Better yet, let’s just have a Color Spectrum and you just drag the indicator to the color that matches the gun buyer.  Either that  or we get rid of the RACE selections altogether… because its pretty stupid to continue any institutionalized racism.  You are either an American Citizen, or you are not.  Simple as that.  And there is already a check box for that.
