This is a common question that I get. What add-on’s does one really need? The simple answer is “none”. A basic, stripped down AR is perfectly serviceable. So you don’t necessarily need anything else. Anything from here on that you might add, should only be based on how it’s going to help you do what you want to do with it.

Underrated Tactical .22
The SIG 522 is probably the most underrated of the tactical .22’s on the market. It gets great reviews from a lot of folks… owners love them… NuttinFancy did like a 3 hour Holiday Special on the bloody things, yet I can’t sell the last two we have to save my life. I have shown them and shown them to guys… and guys always buy the S&W MP15-22 instead. Always.
Don’t get me wrong… the S&W is a great .22 rifle. But the SIG has a handy little trick that the Smith can’t do.
No, I’m not supposed to advertise our sales price on these, because it’s below MAP… But we just want to blow these last two guns out. We’ve not sold one in over 6 months. I have two left. If you want one, I’ll hook you up and throw in a couple goodies to go with it.
Remington 700 Sendero .25-06
You guys know I’ve been itching for a .25-06. Well we got in an older style Sendero on trade. If I was in a better situation financially, I’d snag this thing. As it is, it’s tempting for me to put it on layaway. The older style has the narrower, slimmer stock. The new ones have that huge retarded palm swell that I don’t really care for. This one is just how I like them. If I got it, I’d want to put a Rapid Z 800 on it.
Sometimes I really hate working in a gun store. Being an addict makes the job hard.
I don’t know why.
The Barrett model 82A1 is almost Ten Grand. And I don’t know why. I can’t put my finger on any tangible reason the thing is so bloody expensive. The gun is a very simple design with no complicated machining, and it uses some very common parts. The gun is build of what looks like stamped sheet metal. Thick, but it’s still sheet metal that has some bends. Some of those bent metal parts are welded together with welds that… well… Let’s just say I’ve seen better welds in high school metal shop class. Just looking at the gun I’d say it’s a 600 dollar gun, with a 2,000 dollar barrel… so I’d price it at about 2600 bucks.
The Two Biggest Gun Counter Misconceptions
At the Gun Counter, I frequently come across one of two of the most common misconceptions.
Gun Wants
Recent message asked what guns I was thinking about getting in the future.
That’s a good question. Because there are so many awesome guns out there, and new ones coming down the pipe.
Two more Crusader Rifles OTW
Two more Crusaders are on the way to what are going to be two of the happiest rifle buyers on the planet. Joe finished up a base gun and a full tilt Templar rifle.
MAN, those are good looking guns! That Templar is just incredible.
ATI’s AK-47
I’ll update this post with a photo tomorrow. We got in a couple AK-47’s from ATI, the guys that have the really nice 1911’s. These AK’s are built on machined lowers, not stamped sheet metal. They are very solid and well made. The stocks look really good too. 549 for a milled AK, isn’t bad at all. If I had the money, I’d be all over these.
Calling Shennanigans on Remington
Take a good hard and close look at the 2011 Remington Catalog. On page 66 there is a blurb for the 450 Bushmaster Premier Accutip load. This blurb makes the claim that the Accutip provides “supreme accuracy” while delivering “A big dose of aerodynamics“. They go on to claim that Accutip “delivers delivers exceptional flight characteristics for ultimate downrange precision and sustained energy.”
Oh really? Hmmm… That’s interesting. Let’s take a look at the ballistic tables on page 107. Continue reading Calling Shennanigans on Remington
Crusader LEO .308 CETME Battle Rifle
The next Crusader LEO Project Rifle we are currently thinking about is a the CETME. There are a lot of options out there for the CETME and they have a good reputation and a following. And the CETME would gain huge benefits from the Slipstream ST-1 Process. Options would be custom color, railed handguards and a collapsing stock. This will be a very smooth, very reliable .308 battle rifle starting out for under a grand. Even with the collapsing stock and railed guards, still very reasonable. So for you guys that can’t afford a Broadsword or have an aversion to an AR Type weapon – This is the gun. HK liked the so much, they took it and it became the G3.
What do you guys think?
