Shooting themselves in the foot

I know a lot of guys that enjoy Mixed Martial Arts.  One of the outlets of that is the UFC.  Well, the UFC has now banned Shooting and Hunting Sponsors. Shooting and Hunting Sponsors have helped and supported a lot of MMA Fighters the last 10 years.  This isn’t so much for cutting off the advertising for the gun companies… but for them cutting off what is essentially our support for their sport.
This is highly insulting.
So what we need to do, is to vote with our wallets.  If our sponsorship isn’t good enough for them, then our money isn’t good enough for them either.  We need to get the word out, that Shooters and Hunters will now not patronize the UFC.

The USA Gave Chavez Cancer

EXCELLENTE!

Oh Crap.  Hugo Chavez guessed it.  The USA gave him cancer and he found out about it.  By carefully dosing his Frosted Crazy Flakes every morning, we were able to give him cancer after this 20 year process.  We finally got Kim Jong Il, and now we’re getting him too!  (Insert Evil Laughter Here)

Because it couldn’t have been all the cigars and red meat that the fat bastard has been sucking down all his life… it’s America out to get him.  My hell, I can’t wait until that twat kicks the bucket.  His constantly blaming the USA for everything… Come on.  Doesn’t he have any appreciation for the CIA putting all those hundreds of thousands of Agents in his country to haunt his every move?  No appreciation at all!

Note to all the Agents down there.  Let’s get his Little Dog too…

Borrowed time, buddy.

The Amish Slaying

It turns out the Amish Girl was killed by a horrible incident of negligence.  Pretty much it was an accident, but one based on a negligent action.   This is a horrible thing, but the man never intended to kill the girl.  I’m sure that gives comfort to the family of the young woman slain – Okay, not even close.  My heart goes out to the family.

Firing a gun into the air is incredibly stupid.  As we can see the potential for tragedy played out to the fullest in this case.  Doesn’t get much worse than this.   This is why we don’t fire a rifle – of any type – into the air.  Ever.  Even a muzzle loader, 1.5 miles away from anything.  Just don’t do it.   For a muzzle loader, you can’t just unload, which is why the man fired it.  So what you do is you fire it into something that can take a hit.  Like a bucket of sand.  Or a barrel of sand or water.  Whatever you can come up with.   Just don’t fire it into the air.

Defending the Judge

Got a rather long passionate email about the Taurus Judge and everything that is good about it.  The problem though… is that it’s still a Taurus Judge… in .410.  See, regardless of the benifits of the Judge… It’s good at neither shooting the .45 Colt or the .410…

It’s quite true that there are people that have unrealistic expectations about The Judge. It’s not a “monster-slayer,” but you could also say the same thing about a number of other guns out there. (This is mostly due to TV and movies, coupled with a general intellectual laziness whereby most people will see said movie, say, “OOOH, That’s cool! I want one,” and never bother to do their homework. Most serious gun owners actually know better anyway.)

That said, The Judge does have some good points that shouldn’t be glossed over. If you do, you’re just as bad as the people mentioned above.

The primary purpose of this gun is anti-snake. Most ranchers carry some kind of light rifle or shotgun, (at the very least in a vehicle) while they are surveying or doing some kind of work on their property. It is not possible or convenient to carry said shotgun or rifle for every single conceivable task or location. It is significantly more convenient to carry something in a holster attached to one’s hip than slung across one’s shoulder. (I would LIKE to carry my M1-A, and, although it’s perfectly legal in Texas, it’s inconvenient on a motorcycle, and worries the sheeple, which is necessary grief! I CAN carry my concealed handgun.)

I had an uncle who was deathly afraid of rattlesnakes, (just shy of paranoid, but for good reason!) His primary method of ridding himself of a known rattlesnake was to run over it with a vehicle, and then chip its head off with a shovel while the snake was pinned. This worked well if one had a vehicle and shovel. He’s been in situations where he was missing one or both. To make matters worse, they sometimes bite without rattling, and killing one with just a shovel requires that one get unnecessarily close to the snake.

With The Judge, if you see a snake that you can’t avoid or work around, one or two shots with #9 shot will take care of it. That give you three extras, “just in case.”

That which applies to the rancher applies to the fisherman who is concerned about water moccasins, (which are VERY aggressive!) or bears. The Judge is indeed weak tea vs bear, (even with Speer Gold Dots,) but the revolver will “dual-hat” between .410 and .45LC, and sometimes that’s a better choice overall.

A good secondary purpose would be small game and / or light varmint at close range. As above, it’s easier to carry than a long-gun.

A good tertiary purpose would be anti-carjacking in areas where one is paranoid about over-penetration. This is a bigger concern if you live in a big city, and not so much for a small town or country. Then again, in such areas, carjacking is less of a concern.

The Judge would not fit in the role of skeet shooting, unless you’re insanely good and want a challenge, or are a dingbat, and like the idea of shooting skeet with a handgun.

The Judge is too big to conceal unless you are a big-and-tall person wearing the right clothing with the right holster. Even then, there are better choices.

For home-defense, there’s very little reason not to have an actual shotgun.

That said, don’t be too hard on The Judge. Educate the people who have Holywood ideas about guns and their capabilities.

Time

Time Magazine’s Man of the Year… The Rapists, Thieves, Vagrants, and those that shat on the US Flag and Police Cars; That’s their man if the year.
Really?
So the magazine that used to celebrate the American Way… Is now the equivalent of a Radio Shock Jock… Howard Stern is now the Editor?  No, because even Stern would’ve not been that stupid.
Pathetic.

I whip my hair back and forth

Will Smith has a little girl… She has a song out by that title.  I think too many shooters have that song stuck in their heads.
Search and Assessment means look around you for threats… Not jerk your melon around like your in a pop dance number.  Fight and train alike… So take a moment and actually look around you – or don’t do it at all.  Because not only do you look retarded, your building a harmful training scar.

I’m seeing a pattern here.

Check this news out.  The Ft. Hood shooter was a “Work Place Violence” issue, not Domestic Terrorism.

China is ramping up for War.  Getting ready to throw down.   Our side’s response?  “No one is looking for a scrap here.”  No, not here… but over there, they sure as hell are!

The ATF’s project Fast and Furious, which is giving the Drug Cartels lots of high powered weapons they are using against us now… is to make American Gun Owners look bad.

Do you see the pattern here?  The US Government doesn’t know what the hell they are doing and they have no common sense.  It’s a wonder that the streets of DC, inside the Beltway, isn’t littered with the bodies of drowned Government Workers every time it rains.

Logic Fail: Democrats

The Government does something patiently illegal, and the Citizens take the blame. Yeah, I’m not Eric Holder’s Whipping Boy, so don’t look at me sideways because his Agency committed crimes which would land anyone else in the hole for the rest of their lives.  But of course, we all saw this coming.

What we want to see, is Eric Holder and a whole mess of ATF Chiefs get charged appropriately for the crimes they have committed.   The penalty for a Straw Sale is 10 years for each gun.

Straw Purchase
A straw purchase is any purchase where a person purchases a firearm for another person who is not eligible to purchase it. Although it usually refers to the purchase of illegal firearms, the term can refer to almost anything bought or sold illegally.

In the United States, straw purchases are a felony violation of the Gun Control Act of 1968 for both the straw purchaser (who can also be charged with lying on Federal Form 4473) and the ultimate possessor.

A Firearms Transaction Record, or Federal Form 4473, is a United States government form that must be filled out when a person buys a firearm from a Federal Firearm License holder (such as a gun store). For knowingly making any false statement or representation on Federal Form 4473, the penalty is 10 years.

The ATF did more than just this.  They allowed straw sales against Dealers objections.  Then they went so far as to even use Tax Payer Dollars to buy even more guns to give to the Bad Guys.  Okay, wait, the line between the good guys and bad guys there is really thin and vague.  What the ATF did is horrendous beyond measure.  They broke the trust that was placed on them, broke the faith the American People put on them and this is unforgivable.  The entire agency needs to be Disbanded from the top down.

Pointing fingers at the American Gun Owner is remarkably asinine.  The Democrats solution is to lay down more laws and restrictions? Anyone with more than a pair of synapses can see the truth of this… The people they have to enforce the gun laws are the ones doing their damnedest to break those laws!

1.  Prosecute those that allowed this to happen, Eric Holder first and foremost.

2.  Abolish the BATFE completely.

3.  Wipe every – EVERY – Gun Law off the books nation wide.  Gun Laws should be a STATE issue.  Interstate Commerce is too thin a reason for Federal Regulation.  Some states have allowed Gay Marriage, yet we do not require those couples to never leave the state in which they are married… but they could move.  There’s an interstate issue now.  Does this make it a Federal one?  No.  It’s still a State issue.  I don’t need a Federal Driver’s License.  Yet I can drive in every state.   All Gun laws should be a State Issue.  The Feds need to drop it.  Every gun law on the Federal books should be ERASED.  EVERY ONE OF THEM.

Round Count

Let me start by saying this… Round count doesn’t matter.  When you bring in a gun to trade in, the store doesn’t need the full Biography of the gun.  We don’t need to hear the round count.  I don’t care that you only had 1 magazine fired through it.  You only fired 1 box so it’s practically brand new.  That’s all meaningless.  I had a guy that swore he only fired 3 rounds out of his Ruger revolver.  Doesn’t matter.  A.  People lie about that big time… and B.  Firearms don’t have Odometers on them.  Unlike the value of a Car, the value of a gun doesn’t factor the number of rounds fired.  Not at all.

What we do care about is CONDITION.  In fact, that’s practically all that matters.  Unless you have a gun that was NEVER fired and is in PERFECT and FLAWLESS condition, then maybe.  But that almost never happens, so it’s moot.    On just about any gun, firing some rounds is going to effect the condition a little.  Most guns go from 100% to 98% almost instantly.  After that, they could stay there for awhile at 98 for good long time of careful handling.  Most guns tend to be 95%.  This effects the value more drastically.

Now when you bring in a gun, and it’s 95%, say it’s worth X amount of dollars according to the book.  That’s the Max we could sell it for.  We have to make some money on that gun, so we are going to give you less than that.  About half, because we have to mark it up, but keep it less than a brand new gun by a margin that would still let the gun move instead of people saying “Well, I’d just buy the gun new.”  Don’t be offended if your baby doesn’t bring the big bucks you wanted.  It’s nothing personal.  And your beautifully crafted, bitter-sweet story isn’t going to raise the value either.  Come on, if the gun meant so much to you, why the hell are you trading it in?  Don’t be thick. If your Baby is worth so much – then sell it yourself.   You know you are going to take a hit on value if you trade it.  If we gave people what they wanted for a trade in gun – Used guns would cost double what New guns would cost.  We can’t sell a used gun that’s priced outside of it’s Book Value.  The store ends up sitting on them for years until they are finally marked down to Give Away prices just to get rid of the things.

So no, Sir.  I’m not going to give you twelve hundred bucks for your late Grandfather’s WWI Ruger Mini-14 with a Simmons scope on top.
