Uprising Updates

I updated the Uprising Page.  New information there, and a possible new cover for Uprising UK.   I noticed that the big book sellers had a pricing war going on, Amazon had it for one price, then B&N had it for a lower price, so Amazon dropped it… now it’s only 12.20 from either company.  E-book prices are lower still of course.

Books for me to Autograph are in route and should be here soon for me to sign in blood… or just Red Ink… then I’ll ship them all back to the publisher for distribution.

I’ve been asked about Book Signings at the stores like Larry does.  Guys, Larry’s a freaking Author/Rockstar.  Not only do guys line up to get their books inked by the man, other Authors are begging him to Tag Team with him.  Larry walks the Earth with Large Strides.  Deservedly so.  He’s earned those Kudos the hard way.   Me?  I’m no “Larry Freaking Correia”.    Honestly, I don’t want the attention.  I tell you what… If you see me at the Range, and you want me to ink your book… I’d be happy to do so.    But don’t act like Larry’s fans… Girls pulling off their small clothes and throwing them at Larry… Guys pulling out their armor plates throwing them at Larry… No… Don’t do that.  Uprising is no great work of literature, it’s just a lark.  Now if you want to give me Ammo… by all means.

However I am putting much more effort into UK and it’s going to be a much better book on all counts.  As jazzed as I am for Uprising USA to be out there and people reading it and enjoying it for what it is – Awesome – I’m all the more jazzed for Uprising UK.

A scene from Uprising UK

In this scene “Uncle Musket” is sitting on top of an LAV outside of the Castle Inverness.

Uncle Musket stayed with the vehicles, sitting on top of one with his musket in one hand and a suppressed 1911 in the other because of my insistence. Until he could fit a gun muffler to the old muzzle loader, it was an operational necessity. Begrudgingly, he accepted that. He flicked the safety on and off. Click. Click. Click. Click. Click. “Huh?” Musket stopped and listened, tilting his head. There was something out there in the fog. He could hear shuffling off in the distance, but he couldn’t tell where it came from. He stared into the swirling mist, looking through the light and dark and not seeing anything. But he could feel it. He left the pistol off safe.

Things get out of hand quickly.

Uprising: UK

It looks like Uprising: UK is going to come out to be about 300 pages.   A much more manageable sized book.  While I am going through and basically rewriting it, I am being careful to give it more atmosphere.  Uprising: US was basically all about the action.  UK is going to be more about the atmosphere and I want to give it more tension building up to the action and then make that action sudden and brutal.

Some scenes in U:UK were very tight, fast, and then we jumped ahead.  Well, I want to make some of these scenes bigger.  Such as when there was a downed aircraft and a missing character.  That scene needs to be expanded.   Then there is the death of a different character, and that should probably get more time as well.   More visual, more detail, and make this story something more important than just an action/horror genre.   Because while U:UK has zombies in it, it’s not really a zombie story.  It takes a turn for the super natural… and I think it takes Uprising to a new, higher level.

The stories as written by the other Uprising authors, are being worked on… and when they are finished, these are going to be some works that you will not want to miss.  In all honesty, they are some of the best writing I’ve ever read.   And this makes me feel strange.   I kinda think they have done a better job than I have done… I started this, created this Uprising Universe, and these are the guys that have taken it and run with it…  Which makes me the George Lucas of Zombies.  Neat.  Now I need to grow a ridiculous mop of hair, a huge beard, and wear flannel.    Okay, no… I wont go there.  But this does make me think… who is my Jar-Jar?  I think that would be Musket.  Musket is my Jar-Jar.

The next books in the Uprising Series is going to be in Russia… and then to China where the Uprising was all started.  But I don’t know how it all ends.   We shall have to wait and see.

New writing project

As you guys know I’ve finished the first book of Uprising and as we speak, the publisher is going through it with a fine tooth comb getting it ready to print. When that happens, I don’t know just yet. Uprising’s sequel, Uprising UK is almost finished… But as it sits, I am needing to take a break from zombies.
I was going to work on Privateer or Silvershot, but a story idea smashed me upside the head and I’ve got to get it out. It’s a Sci-Fi. Something I’ve just never been able to write before. Moreover, it’s a Horror. I’ve recycled the title Vibrant Darkness for this work and I’m well underway.
In this universe, spaceships are sub-light, but can cross the vast distances by traveling through “warp space”. Similar to Warhammer 40K, but I’ve strived for Warhammer’s inspiration, HP Lovecraft. My goal is to make this a Lovecraftian Sci-Fi. But I’ll have to let the readers be the judge of that.
For those who are not WTA members, you will have to wait.  This book is going to be published before summer’s end, as is my goal for it.  For those that are members of WeTheArmed.com, it’s in the Creative Writing Forum, a Sub-section of the R&R Forum. For Members, here is the direct link.

If you have a Kindle, or if you have a PC or Mac or Smart Phone and downloaded the Kindle e-reader, I got something for you.

My brother is a Prolific Writer.  Get his books.  They are cheap and Good Reads…

I have to admit that I really like his ghost story: Behind the Shroud.  In fact, he has characters that make a cameo appearance in “Privateer”, one of the books I have in the works.  Gorgon is also a very awesome work of Fantasy that takes a different look at fantasy “monsters”.   His books are good, people.  Worth the downloads.  And quite frankly, he could use the support since he’s basically an out of work Substitute Teacher here during Summer Vacation.  (also, he’s working on Gorgon II, so you’re going to want to catch up.)
