Crusader Sterling upgrades in the works

One of the drawbacks to the Sterling is that it has no way of mounting an optic.  We’re fixing that.  Our friend JesseL from WTA is working on a very simple and elegant solution.  Prototypes are in route to Ogre Ranch for testing.

Should these work out… these will be offered immediately for all those that had ordered one of our Sterlings.  They will also be offered as an option for all future Sterling orders.

We learned a lot doing these 9mm SMG’s the first time around.  The next run will be even better… especially with these mounts.  Yes, there will be another run.  Give us a few weeks and we’ll be looking at making that run.  We’ve a lot of business to take care of first, but its coming.

Mossberg 930 SPX, lets get critical.

At the gunshop I work at, we got in more of the Mossberg 930 SPX tactical shotguns.  Even though they have had a huge surge in popularity, they are the same price as they were before.  About 600 bucks.  They have improved the SPX slightly.  For one, they gave the SPX a larger bolt handle, which is a large improvement.  They they screwed in a Sling Swivel Stud so you can put on a sling.  Thanks, that’s a nice touch… but it’s not enough.   I have some complaints about the SPX that I’d like to see Mossberg take a good hard look.

I sell these things for a living, that’s what I do.  And a lot of the serious shooters out there just can’t take Mossberg’s semi auto seriously, and will buy a gun that’s 400 bucks more money.  Why is that and what can be done to fix it?

1.  The forward handguard feels loose.  It doesn’t feel solid and secure.  This gives the whole gun a cheeper, lesser quality feeling.  I know the gun is good, but when the handguard is shifting around, it’s hard to convince someone that’s it’s okay.  A tactical shotgun should be as solid as a Louisville Slugger.   Mossberg just hasn’t got this yet.

2.  This new aftermarket sling swivel stud looks like someone just screwed it on before they took a lunch break.  That just screams chinsey.  A simple bracket like what Wilson Combat sells would work perfectly, look cool, and would be easier and better to use for those who use shotguns for serious purposes… like… who you’re selling the SPX to.

3.  It doesn’t come with a mount for a pistol light.  The addition of a simple bracket around the mag-tube and barrel that puts a short rail up front would go a long way.  Instead you (Mossberg) are forcing your customers to go buy that part from someone else.  You make that part and you sell that part.

4.  No chokes.  What makes a Shotgun so great is it’s versatility.  With removable chokes, an operator can tune his gun and load in together for whatever situation.  This is one of the main reasons I sell tactical shotguns that are 400 bucks more.   Serious shooters want to be able to use the right shell for the job, and if they don’t have the ability to change out a choke tube, then that’s a handicap.  A big one.

If Mossberg does these few things… the 930 SPX can be transformed from a “Great gun for The Money” into a World Class gun for Serious Shooters.

.338 Lapua is so super awesome!

We hear a lot of questions about the .338 Lapua cartridge.  It get’s almost religious-like hushed tones when most guys talk about it.  It gets so much attention, even out here in the Uintah Basin, that when people around here talk about a .338, they are talking about the Lapua round.

Let’s take a look at the most common .338’s here in my neck of the woods.

I don’t get Steampunk.

Steampunk seems to be all about Victorian clothes, with Goggles and Boots and Brass Gears and Tubes.   Am I missing something?

Yeah, I heard it’s all about Jules Verne (The Father of Sci-Fi, yada yada yada) and stuff… but I don’t get it.  It’s less Geeky than Cyberpunk, I’ll give it that.   And the people seem smarter and better looking that Cyberpunks… but I’m just not getting Steampunk.

Someone, please explain this to me.

Marlin’s looking good again?

We got in a couple new Marlins from the factory.   One of them is a big loop Guide Gun.  Guys, I have to tell you… it looks good.  None of the shoddy fitting like in the past.  None of the shabby wood like in the past.  Everything on it looks and feels good.  Like a Marlin should.  And this isn’t just one shippment.  The last one looked good too, so this isn’t a fluke event.

Now, don’t hold me to it, and don’t hold your breath…. but I’m hopeful that Marlin has fixed their QC issues and is now making good guns again.

Sick of hearing about Weiner’s junk.

I don’t click the links, so I’m not following the story.  But the headlines have pretty much painted a good enough picture I wish I hadn’t seen.  Every time I go to a news site, there is another story about Rep Weiner’s junk.  I’m sick of it.  The DNC, if they had any credibility left, would demand that this guy steps down.  But they’ve not done that.  Because Weiner’s Junk is a puppet show that takes away from attention that could be paid on more important issues.  Such as the Economy.  It’s all about the Economy right now… specifically, how bad it is.  Yet we don’t hear a lot about it on the normal news outlets.  The Democrats are crashing our Economy and instead of getting the reports on that, we’re getting Weiner’s weiner wagged in our faces.    Next election, break out the shears… let’s cut these guys off at the root.

The Democrat lead Administration has driven the US into the ground so far that it’s going to be impossible for us to climb back out of.  We need a drastic change in the USA and luckily such change is still able to happen peacefully.  We still have our votes.   We can still fix this by voting out every Democrat in every office… if we can take back our Government from the Socialists, we can fix our country.

I have awesome Sisters-In-Laws… One of them is just a force of nature.  She decided to build a Fort for her kiddies to play in.  She can’t do anything half way.   Check this out.

Yeah, that kinda says everything about the family that I married in to.   They kinda force you to Be Awesome just so you can fit in.   So now, if I want to build a Fort too… the bloody thing is going to have to be the USS NIMITZ with a working Cat system.  Hmmmm.

New Laptop!

Okay, I picked up my new HP Laptop running Widows 7.   It’s a Pavilion dm4 with an i5 processor, 4 gigs ram, huge HD with more gigs than I can count.  I like it.  The keyboard layout is good… just like my old one.  But there is one critical difference.   This thing doesn’t have the scroll section on the touch pad.   Not that this is a deal breaker for me… but I am missing it within seconds of using this machine.    I’m also not hugely impressed with Windows 7.   Too many bloody automated “features” keep popping up.  Well, it’s new, so once it learns my preferences it’s going to stop pestering me.   Just a side note, I’m never doing business with Staples again.  Douches.  And I don’t use that word lightly.    

Okay… so I have the new laptop… have to name it.   The last one was “Hordecaster”, the Netbook is “Orcalite”… so maybe “Hordemancer” for this one.  Meaningless frivalties really, the name… but I like naming things.
