I love it when I get an email like this...
After having one of those days, this really picks me up.
Mr. Hill,Just wanted to send a quick e-mail. After listening to the Gunfighter Cast podcast that you were on I ordered BOTH Uprising USA and Uprising UK and finished them both on less than a week. I am now waiting patiently for the next book. I also ordered Slipstream in both grease and oil from Crusader Weaponry that should be here next week. I look forward to spending thousands of rounds evaluating Slipstream in all my firearms.
I am now a proud follower of both WeTheArmed.com and MadOgre.com.
I know a lot of guys that enjoy Mixed Martial Arts. One of the outlets of that is the UFC. Well, the UFC has now banned Shooting and Hunting Sponsors. Shooting and Hunting Sponsors have helped and supported a lot of MMA Fighters the last 10 years. This isn’t so much for cutting off the advertising for the gun companies… but for them cutting off what is essentially our support for their sport. This is highly insulting.
So what we need to do, is to vote with our wallets. If our sponsorship isn’t good enough for them, then our money isn’t good enough for them either. We need to get the word out, that Shooters and Hunters will now not patronize the UFC.
We’ve all been checking out the reports coming out of SHOT show about the new guns and gear and everything.
Two handguns that I am looking forward to checking out in person.. The new SIG P938 and the Springfield XDS. I’ll take that 938 in the Extreme layout and the XDS in a .40 when it comes available.
Another interesting gun is the new 1887 T Series shotgun. This would go perfect with your Terminator Costume.
Blade wise, KaBar/Becker has some great new blades that I am really liking… but that’s another post.
Time Machines are real. I own a bunch of them, and if you are a MadOgre.com reader, you probably own a few yourself. No other object we have connects people through time as a Firearm.
When you pick up an old heirloom gun… it connects you to your Father, or your Grand Father, or his Father… you feel what they felt, you remember them and think about their lives and times that they had with that gun. The scratches on the stock, the mark on the bluing… and you remember their stories about hunting that deer or bear. If you are lucky, you remember them taking you out when your were a kid and teaching you how to shoot it.
I remember when my father took me shooting. Each time. What I don’t remember is when he took me to Disney Land or Six Flags… I know I went, but I don’t remember anything of it… but I remember him taking me shooting.
I don’t think you can get that time machine effect from a Rolling Pin… remembering making a batch of biscuits.
It’s become the Cool Guy thing to rip on Talk Radio. Even when quoting – it’s important for Cool Guy to distance himself any association with Talk Radio. That’s fine. That can be your thing. Eat your Peanut M&Ms by the bagful and then complain that it has nuts in it. Go ahead.
Me, I love talk radio and most of the time my radios are tuned to an AM Talk station… When it’s not, it’s on a Classic Rock station but usually that’s just when the Talk Radio is doing Sports. Not that I have anything against Sports – it’s just that I find that Radio is a poor venue for Sports. Unless it’s Jim Rome, and then he’s about Talk Radio again. And you guys know all about my involvement with Armed American Radio, with Mark Walters, a 3 hour live radio talk show about firearms related news, politics, and hardware. Most of the time I come in during the 3rd Hour Round Table. I’ve also been quoted on other radio talk shows and have called in (had been asked to) to several others as well. I basically grew up around Talk Radio… so much so that it’s almost a Parental Figure in my life.
I don’t get to listen to Talk Radio as much as I’d like. You heard that right. I like to listen to Talk Radio and would do so more if it was possible.
Here are my favorites for Weekday Talk Radio:
This is the new Title Sequence for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Many have said it’s better than the original flick. I liked the original films… so if the title sequence is this badass… I’m going to have to go see it.
Both versions of “True Grit” are now on Netflix. The classic version with John Wayne, and the new one with Jeff Bridges.
After reviewing them both carefully and considering everything… I’ve come to the conclusion that new version is indeed the better movie. Better casting, acting, directing, and it’s more realistic. John Wayne plays a great John Wayne, but Jeff Bridges absolutely becomes Rooster Cogburn. Hailee Steinfeld plays Mattie Ross brilliantly, and upstages both veteran actors. She is amazing and adorable… unlike the original version’s Mattie Ross, who was completely annoying throughout. Better violence, harsh and stark, the way it should be. A better ending too. And the new version has the ultimate creature of nightmare making… The Bear Hat Man.
