WTA has a thread about this... guns that have been put out to pasture, but need to be brought back into production with modern refinements of manufacturing and materials.
I’ve had some emails where people think that I am disrespecting Kimber. Actually I feel that Kimber has disrespected the American Gun Culture. Taking us for granted.
Personally I have great respect for Kimber. They changed the 1911 Industry as a whole. Before Kimber, it was common to buy a new Colt or other 1911… and take it straight to a gunsmith so that they could make the gun simply run. Kimber comes out with the gun they called the “Custom”. And it worked right out of the box. They sold so well, that the other 1911 makers had to step up their games or they were out. It really kicked Colt in the Sweets hard.
I’m critical of Kimber because in my opinion they have let themselves down.. accepting lower standards and just expecting customers to just take it because they are Kimber and they know better. Well, that’s just not acceptable. Kimber needs to get back to building guns instead of making pretty. The need to take seriously the gun making responsibility. Guns are for Competition, for Law Enforcement, for Self Defense… These guns can Save Lives. They should take seriously a sacred responsibility to build guns right.
I’ve developed a love/hate thing on Kimber last couple of years. But lately it’s been more hating than loving. I have my reasons. So I have some serious criticisms for Kimber.
Here is an old Highwall Browning in .22-250. Amazing in every detail. They don’t make rifles like this anymore. Just look at the wood on this thing! Stunning. The photos do not do it justice.
This is a common question that I get. What add-on’s does one really need? The simple answer is “none”. A basic, stripped down AR is perfectly serviceable. So you don’t necessarily need anything else. Anything from here on that you might add, should only be based on how it’s going to help you do what you want to do with it.
You guys are of course well aware that I’ve been packing a 1911 a lot lately. Let’s clarify just what a lot lately is. About 3 days a week I’ve been packing my ATI 1911 Commander. I’m pleased with it. But the rest of the time, I’m packing my Glock 23. Still.
Reason being, there is no doubt or question about the Glock. It’s going to be there if I need it, and it’s going to do just what I need it to do. Simple as that. Also, it’s packing as much ammo in one mag as the 1911 packs in 2. That’s a bonus. Pretty much, the Glock 23 remains the perfect carry gun.
To many guys go out to a Big Gun Show, and think they are going to fall on an old under valued classic and flip it for a mint. Guys, just because the gun is old and rusty, doesn’t mean it’s valuable. No, Dillinger did not own that gun.
We finally got in one of the famed Springfield Range Officer 1911’s. The simplicity and plain appearance belies the nature of the gun. It’s truly a Sleeper… a Q Ship. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.
I’ve been called a “Gun Expert” many times… Even by guys like Massad Ayoob. I’m no such thing. Guys, no one is a Gun Expert. They might be an Expert on a certain branch or field of the Shooting Culture… but no one is an expert on all of it. I’m not Expert.
I’m an Enthusiast.
The SIG 522 is probably the most underrated of the tactical .22’s on the market. It gets great reviews from a lot of folks… owners love them… NuttinFancy did like a 3 hour Holiday Special on the bloody things, yet I can’t sell the last two we have to save my life. I have shown them and shown them to guys… and guys always buy the S&W MP15-22 instead. Always.
Great looking rifle... slick lines, Classic SIG 556 looks...
Don’t get me wrong… the S&W is a great .22 rifle. But the SIG has a handy little trick that the Smith can’t do.
If you do this with your Smith - it wont be covered under warranty.
No, I’m not supposed to advertise our sales price on these, because it’s below MAP… But we just want to blow these last two guns out. We’ve not sold one in over 6 months. I have two left. If you want one, I’ll hook you up and throw in a couple goodies to go with it.
