Ruger’s 1911, the rumors are true.

To have another Gun Maker coming out with a 1911, isn’t surprising.  But for Ruger to jump into this crowded pool actually makes sense.  Much like S&W before they entered the game, Ruger has been making 1911 parts for a long time.

The “SR”1911… because Ruger can’t say 1911… actually looks pretty good. I like the fact that the slide is Forged, even if the frame is cast.  Ruger’s casting is the best in the industry. I’ll give them points for not putting on forward slide serrations.  I’ll even go so far as to give them props for not making the slide a huge freaking billboard.     The simple Double Diamond checkered grips also look good, with a simple Colt style medallion inset into the wood.  As much as I’ve been hating on Ruger… I have to give them a nod here.  Well done, Ruger.  Well done.

Now if you would just change your Distributor Only business model so dealers could actually make a buck stocking your guns – yeah… that would be great.  Because as it is now, I hope I don’t have to sell one, because I’d make more money selling anything else.  Ruger and Glock… there’s no money in selling the things.  So am just not excited about these things.

  1. I like that Ruger has come out with the 1911.
Sorry, not gonna add the SR.
However I need a commander before another full size…
I like that they reeled in their temptation to use the slab sides as a billboard.

I like many Rugers… I really do, I just dont find myself buying them.

  2. No ambi safety – I like that. Out of the gate with stainless, that’s good. $800 retail. How will the translate into reality?

  3. MSRP is 799, so the street price will be about 750 on these. The new Rugers don’t have a huge mark up on them, so don’t expect much lower on these.

  4. I think it looks pretty dang good, except for that silly surgeon general’s warning, or whatever it is. Nothing more important than safety but seriously, does Ruger think their customers are stupid and might confuse a 1911 with a hairdryer or something?

  5. At least no stupid “Series 80” firing pin safety. Those really destroy a good trigger. They are the first thing I remove.

  6. Do these have a Magazine safety? If so, not interested in stocking it. I really wish Ruger could keep up with production on guns it already has in the pipeline. The LC9 in particular. They’re starting to take more than designs from Kel-Tec, but their inability to keep up with demand.

  7. Maybe Ruger is finally catching on that private individuals don’t like lawyer proof agency firearms with crappy trigger pulls. But I doubt it considering what they did to LC9 when they copied if from Kel-Tec.

  8. P.S. If someone gave me one the first thing I’d do would be to throw away the titanium firing pin and replace it with a steel one. Titanium in a race gun maybe.
