No Fly No Buy

I have a problem with the No Fly No Buy thing.   Now, on the surface, the idea that someone who can’t get on an Airplane shouldn’t be able to buy a gun – is fine.   The problem isn’t that rule.  The problem is that list.   The No Fly List is shrouded in Mystery and Secrecy.  You can all too easily be put on that list, and you have almost no way to get off of it.  I have questions:
1. What are the requirements that must be met to be put on that list?
2. What are the oversights?
3. What are the rules that manage that list?
4. What is the Due Process?
5. If you are on that List by mistake, how do you get off that list?
6. Is this going to be like the IRS and can it be used to illegally target groups that are out of favor with the standing administration?
7. Can it be used to harass Political Adversaries?
8. Can it be used to punish someone that pisses off some unnamed, faceless Bureaucrat?
9. Who controls the List?
10.  Where’s the Transparency?
See… the problem that I have with the No Fly List being tied to guns is that it can be far too easily used to strip people of Constitutionally Protected Rights with absolutely ZERO Due-Process.   Especially since Officials of the Government have admitted that 35% of the names on that list are there by mistake.
That’s a pretty big percentage of error.   If you are going to take away anyone’s Rights it needs to be done through a Court.  Not a Bureaucratic Cog.
EVEN IF HE OR SHE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION by the FBI.
WHY?  BECAUSE WE ARE INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY!!!!!!!
This is the main problem I have with it.  This rule would mean that if you are on this list you are guilty – Guilty without a Trial.  Guilty just because you have a similar name to someone else…
Due Process is Promised us by the Constitution and this takes that away.
This is Un-American.
This is disgusting.
And I’m straight up against it.  We give up too much.  Way too much.  With nothing in return.   We always give up our Liberty.  And we do not get anything in return for it… it’s a bad deal.

  1. I agree this reminds me of Nazi Germany, just take away citizens rights for any reason and no recourse to get off of it. I have already compromised with my 2nd amendment rights by applying for a ccw. I am sick of the otherside spreading lies misleading the public with askewed facts or just plain out not knowing what they are talking about. gun show loop hole the internet loop hole its all misleading people we know it but well we just are not being heard like the media that can push out what they want to say or these fake celebs or the hyoocritical celebs that make violent movies or gun movies then sit there and berate and scream guns are bad anywho rant done

  2. “The problem we have—and really, the firewall we have right now, is due process. It’s all due process. So we can all say, ‘yeah, we want the same thing,’ but how do we get there. If a person is on a terrorist watch list like the gentleman—the shooter—in Orlando, he was, twice by the FBI, we were briefed yesterday about what happened. But that man was brought in twice. They did everything they could. The FBI did everything they were supposed to do. But there was no way for them to keep him on the nix list or keep him off the gun buy list. There was no way to do that. So can’t we say that if a person is under suspicion, there should be a five year period of time that we have to see if good behavior, if this person continues the same traits? Maybe we can come to that type of an agreement. But due process is what’s killing us right now.”

    1. Can’t have it both ways. That position is guilty until proven innocent, with no chance to prove innocence.

  3. I lived for several years in Western Alaska, and if you were on the no fly list you were stuck. No roads, no public transport, no way to cross rivers except for winter. Private aircraft, or charter is then the only way to travel.

Speaking of that does the No Fly List do anything that stop the movement of terrorists or people of interest? I realize that your average suicide bomber is not traveling private/charter, but I am damn sure the leadership is when it matters.

I had not heard the 35% error rate before, but I have heard that it is somewhere around 24 months of beating your head against a wall to get removed from the list. And this was an acquaintance’s child, 3 years old. Show up at the airport to go visit family and find out your child can’t board the plane, because they are a suspected terrorist.

I don’t have an answer, because jealousy and hate have no simple answers. Anyone who claims they have such answers, is lying.

In short I agree with the Ogre. Bring the NFL in to the light/due process or do not tie it to removal of rights.

    1. 700,000 names on the list currently. Just names no identifiers and a lot of names are strings of names all spelled differently.

  4. Anyone under FBI investigation, like the Hildabeast!!! Ted Kennedy was on the list for awhile boy did that embaress the Feds. Federalist I think had an article this week about a gal who took four years in Fed court to get off the list and final finding about why she was on the list, the FBI agent who interviewed her CHECKED THE WRONG BOX ON A FORM. Until the end DOJ fought to stop the case, allowing her any info and demanded that if there was a trial it could not be conducted with any information obtained from DOJ.

  5. Dr. K on FOX this afternoon said there is now 800,000 names on the list. I don’t think the NRA membership would wholesale be put on the list by Lynch the AG cause it would be political suicide, but if she even thought she could get away with it, it would happen over night and Ovomit would gloat about at the podium the next day…civil war is coming.

  6. Unless and until we get rid of the “secret squirrel” shit that is more political power than real national Security, we are boned. That means wresting power away from anonymous agencies and back into the People’s hands. What are the odds, of enough folks caring?

  7. This whole administration is rotten to the core. PC is getting people killed so they have to deflect the reason why with trying to ban guns to keep us from fixing the real problem.

  8. They are going to crush all cars starting July 4th to stop car wrecks .. And babies are gonna be next to prevent birth defects

  9. With seven plus years of history, I think we can safely say that the sponsor alone tells us it is a totally BAD idea. The concept sounds good, but with the seemingly total lack of oversight and with zero recourse if you are ever put on it, this needs to QUICKLY become another of the “suggestions” from 0BUMMER that goes away . . . . . . SOON and in perpetuity.
