Zombies Still Rule

Zombies are still the Ultimate Horror Creature.   At no point are Zombies a Romantic Figure or Anti-Hero.  At no point are people trying to Make Peace with the Zombies.  At no point is there an attempt to Understand the Zombies.  Because they are fucking Zombies and absolutely Haunt humanity.

Zombies are in the Bible:

Zechariah 14:12-13
And the LORD will send a plague on all the nations that fought against Jerusalem. Their people will become like walking corpses, their flesh rotting away. Their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths.
On that day they will be terrified, stricken by the LORD with great panic. They will fight their neighbors hand to hand.

Zombies are even in the very oldest of our stories, The Epic of Gilgamesh:

I will raise up the dead, and they will devour the living,
I will make the dead outnumber the living!

Zombies are found in every era, in every culture, in every country in the world.  They scare us more than anything else and have always done so.  And they always will.   Which is why Zombies are like Bacon.  They make everything better.  Even my Music Playlist is Zombie Heavy

  1. Zombies are like bacon is too far to stretch a metaphor.

Everyone knows that bacon is for eating.

And zombies are … well, eating.

    Nevermind. Argument withdrawn.

    Dammit. Now I’m hungry.

  2. Eh. Don’t get me wrong, zombies are cool… they’ve just been done to death (please pardon the pun). Don’t know about y’all, but I’m pretty zombie’d out.

Says the guy who’s working on v3.0 of his Uprising story. I know, I’m a hypocrite.

  3. No attempt to understand zombies? You haven’t seen Fido, have you?

Not as funny as Zombieland, but worth seeing.

  4. Zombies ( or other walking dead like mummies ),
    Vampires,
    Where-Creatures ( Wherewolf, Wherebear, Whereshark, Wheredemocrat ),
    Ghosts,
    Dragons,
Sirens ( or some kind of lure you to your death with sex creature ),
Elves ( or something similarly alien but still kinda human ).

These are present in just about every cultures myths.
Anyone know any more that are universal or nearly so ?

  5. There is a “shoot house” called Shoot Extreme which recently opened in my neighborhood offering “zombie hunts” featuring animated dummies with the expected appearance and Simunitions converted firearms. Best “low light, live-fire” practice I’ve ever encountered.

  6. Zombies are played out in the gun culture. I don’t want to sound like a tactical hipster, but I was ready for the Zombie Apocalypse back in 2001, before there were zombie TV shows and zombie ammo and zombie sights and zombie guns and on and on and on. We’re just ahead of the power curve. The general public is now only becoming aware of the zombie threat.

Anyone seen Reign of Fire? Screw zombies. It’s time to get ready for the Dragon Apocalypse!

  7. I’ll admit that the zombie branding is getting old…I mean an Ecotech with a zombie symbol…really?

I’m still into the general genre, though. Books, movies, general preparedness, etc. Honestly, when I think about another day of paperwork and office politics, the zombie apocalypse begins to look attractive. I’m probably more suited to headshots and survival vs PowerPoint and a$$ kissing.
