Question Clearing House

Here’s a quick paraphrasing of some of the more common questions I’ve been getting lately, mainly through YouTube and Facebook.  I’ll answer them here as well.

Q:  What’s been your most accurate pistol?
A:  The most accurate pistol I ever owned?   That’s easy.  It was my CZ 97B.   The gun was not perfect, but it was very very good.  Honestly, I was a total dumbass for selling it.

Q:  What’s been your most reliable pistol?
A:  Honestly most of my guns have been very reliable.  Most reliable though would be the ones I still own, my Glock 23, Springfield 1911 GI, and Beretta 92FS.  I tend to filter out unreliable guns.   The most reliable gun…. well, while none of these guns have ever – EVER – given me a jam, the Glock has by far had the most rounds fired through it and unlike any other gun I own, I’ve fed that Glock a large diet of nasty steel cased imported ammo of types I’d just not consider running through any other pistol.  So I’ll have to give the nod to the Glock, it’s just a trooper.

Q:  What’s been your worst pistol?
A:  Easily the CZ 100.   A gun that should never have been made.  Ever.  It was so bad, I may one day pick up another one just because it was such a stand out gun in my mind.   Uniquely horrible trigger that remains the worst of the worst, wrapped up in a design that is equally horrible in its own right.

Q:  What’s your favorite gun?
A:  Overall, Remington 870 Police/Tactical.  Really just any 870 with a short barrel.  I would rather have that than any other gun.  Talking specifically handguns – favorite would be the 1911.

For long time MadOgre.com readers, yes, I’ve come back to the 1911 pistol.  Again.

  1. Most accurate is a great question. I think my next trip to the range is going to be a shootout between the P7 PSP, the USP Expert and the Springfield 1911 “Loaded”. Coincidentally, that will prove once and for all which is better: 9, 40 or 45 😉
Unfortunately… or fortunately, all three guns shoot better than I do, so the winner will probably be due to random chance or unconscious bias.

    1. The USP Expert is a disgustingly accurate pistol. I love & carry my P7 PSP as my summer piece and IMO is one of the most accurate compact defensive pistols out there.

    2. The “Loaded” model is an accurate pistol, but compared to REALLY accurate pistols, is disappointing. I had one, and while I liked it… had lesser guns that out shot it.
Here’s what rocks about it though. I sent it in to Springfield for something else. Springfield sent it back to me with a hand fitted TRP barrel and bushing (Hello Range Officer set up with fixed sights) and the groups were dropped by more than half.

      1. The “Loaded” is nothing more than a “standard” with the usual aftermarket upgrades (beavertail safety, commander hammer, extended “3-hole” trigger, extended manual safety & dovetailed sights) factory installed. No real accuracy enhancements like a match barrel/target sear/etc. but they are very good pistols for the average shooter and a good base for a custom build.

  2. I think I got my $800 worth with the “Loaded”. It’s not a Nighthawk or STI and it’s priced accordingly. But the group size put my M&P to shame and the M&P (+Apex DCAEK) isn’t a bad duty gun.

  3. Got out to the range today. It’s official: they all shoot better than I do! I could hold tight groups with all three guns except a few flyers. I did notice the 1911 was shooting low so I took the opportunity to dial it up.
