Top Ten Guns used in Crime

According to Time Magazine:

1. Smith and Wesson .38 revolver
2. Ruger 9 mm semiautomatic
3. Lorcin Engineering .380 semiautomatic
4. Raven Arms .25 semiautomatic
5. Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun
6. Smith and Wesson 9mm semiautomatic
7. Smith and Wesson .357 revolver
8. Bryco Arms 9mm semiautomatic
9. Bryco Arms .380 semiautomatic
10. Davis Industries .380 semiautomatic

I find this all very interesting about what is On and Not on this list.  In my experience, Hi-Points are also highly used, as are Cobra and Charter Arms.  Also, the guns that are not on the list according to the News:  AR-15’s, AK-47’s, and Glocks.   Now, crime according to the Movies and TV:  AR-15’s, AK-47’s, Uzi’s, Desert Eagles, Mac-10’s, Nickle Plated 1911’s, HK P-7’s, and Walther P99’s.

The reality of guns used in actual crimes are that they tend to be cheap, and they tend to be stolen.  S&W revolvers in .38 to .357, this report is as specific as saying “Ford Truck”… You are talking about the most common longest continually made double action revolver on the planet that’s been manufactured since 1908 with the first Hand-Ejector model. That’s over, by my math, a hundred years of constant production.  They are going to be out there in some numbers.   A brand new full sized S&W 686+ is not a cheap gun, MSRP is $849.00.  But I doubt that criminals are sporting a brand new gun.  Not unless they stole it in a home invasion.

  1. I’ll be… I don’t see none o’ them E-VIL ASSAULT RIFLES listed. Must be a mistake, ‘cuz Obama would never lie to us…

    1. According to the FBI’s own numbers, /all/ long arms (not just “assault rifles,” but all of them) are used in fewer homicides than hands/feet.

You’re literally more likely to be punched to death than murdered by someone using an “assault rifle.”

    2. ” Must be a mistake, ‘cuz Obama would never lie to us…”

Thoughtcrime, Obama is the friggen Lightworker!

Report to the Mintrue for reconditioning, citizen.

  2. It looks like the two revolvers on the list (at numbers 1 and 7) match older police carry guns.

I own a S&W .357 that was traded in when the local departments switch over to semi-autos 20+ years back. Oddly enough, all it’s been used for since I bought it was occasional trips to the range and teaching my wife and daughters to shoot. I wasn’t aware that owning it was supposed to tempt me into a life of crime. What am I doing wrong?

    1. ALL of the guns listed are either low-end/ cheap, or police trade ins. (which can mean less expensive)

Makes me wonder why criminals don’t invest more into the ‘tools of their trade.’

  3. The .38Spl and 9mm Luger. In business since 1902 and still going strong. Still the two most popular ctgs in the world, on both sides of the law.

  4. Is this all crime or just murders? Because if it’s the former then this makes a lot of sense. Most of the crimes are probably liquor store holdups and muggings where you want something concealable that looks like a gun but actually don’t care too much about function.

    1. I think it makes since for just murders too, after you murder someone don’t you want to throw the gun in the lake. Who is going to do that to an Ed brown or a Wilson Combat. IF you just have to pull up and shoot someone in the back of the head then that little .25ACP Is all you need and its cheap enough to be disposable.

  5. Not sure the .38 spl is that popular anywhere anymore looking at the lack of selection on the shelves. Finding any good .38 is a real crap shoot these days. +1 on the 9mm it is still the worlds pistol cartridge based on use and raw numbers, the .40 S&W is probabily on top on US LE now though…
