This thread was originally posted on TFL, but was pulled for fear other people would pull this kinda shit too.  However, I think it's pretty damn funny.  I'm posting it here for viewing for educational purposes only.

Tec Ab-10 ?

I saw a Intratec AB-10, 9MM USED/UNFIRED AT A SHOP TODAY FOR $225.00. I know nothing about this gun, but almost bought it for it's awsome appearance. Stainless and polymer with a mag light and scope mount. Not a mark on it. Original box and papers. Can anyone give me any information about this gun ? Do they work, and is it worth purchasing ?
Thanks,
MR.G

tec 9's

A quick look at auctionarms.com shows NIB post ban tec 9's in the $165-195 range, so that price isn't too far off, once you add in FFL/shipping.

Don't expect a quailty gun, tho. I have a tec 22, and I find it a fun, cheap gun to shoot. It does jam once every 20-50 rounds, but at $8/550 rounds I can live with it.

I *hear* that the 9's are more tempermental than the .22s are; If you buy it, expect parts (firing pin, for example) to wear out, and frequent jams.

btw, I hear someone (forget who) bought the rights to the TEC9 design, and was going to start producing them again; this will probably cause all the AB models to drop in price, esp if the new manufacturer raises the quality any.

I just acquired an AB-10 myself. I'm sure there is a clear and wise use for this weapon. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what that might be.

Seriously.

Going to the range now to run this thing through it's paces.

I'll be giving a report on the handling of this questionable piece shortly.

The AB-10 is a roughly finished, workman like weapon of the direct blow-back type. In many ways it resembles a scaled-down grease gun with a plastic frame.

It is a heavy pistol, with center of balance shifted far forward. The sights are rudimentary, but the trigger pull was surprisingly good.
What was surprising was the recoil. I imagined that the gun's heavy weight and forward balance would keep the recoil down quite a bit. This was not the case. It was very bouncy during rapid fire. The parts diagram showed a part called a buffer. It doesn't seem to buff all that much.

Accuracy was fair, and unsurprising, considering the sights, but I don't believe this tool was ever intended to be a marksman's piece.

To load and charge the weapon one slaps in a box magazine, gives it a tug, and then jerks back on the bolt handle which protrudes from the left side of the receiver. Although blow-back and very Sten-like, this weapon fires from the closed bolt. It is important to let the bolt slam home smartly, or the cartridge will not chamber properly.

The best way to grip and aim this weapon is not clear. I tried a Pseudo-Weaver, a one handed duelist stance, and a two-handed grip in which I wrapped the supporting hand around the magazine well. For some reason there is a prominent web of plastic located here so a low grip is required.

Of the three, the latter stance was more workable.

The gun proved to be reliable, even with the ranges' mandated and doubtful reloads. Although entertaining, I still see no advantage this pistol has over a Beretta or Glock. The main draw for this item is apparently the long box magazine. My example came with a 32 round magazine which was solidly constructed. I have seen high capacity magazines for standard service type autos and imagine one would be better served acquiring such instead of getting the AB-10...depending on what your goals are. If you want to own something for the sake of being extremely Un-P.C., this thing is for you. If you plan on chasing an action movie actor with a bad accent across a sound stage, this gun's for you.

My rating for the AB-10: Entirely silly.

"Hey, I like the AB-10. But then again a guy like me, Jack Burton, likes a lot of cool things... Like my rig the "Pork Chop Express". Lots of power. Thats what Jack Burton is all about, Baby. Because when the lightning is flashing and the thunder is crashing, I say 'Hit me with your best shot. I can take it'. "

"Oh Shut up, Jack. The AB10 is a duscusting attempt at giving the Tec-9 a new life! It sucked then and it sucks now!"

"Shut up BOTH OF YOU! If you wake up Master Lo Pan I will kill you both!"

"Uh, that's Gross! I pitty da fool that has to clean up that mess!"

"MAN! That was GREAT! Did you see how he just went like BOOM!"

"Ah, yes. The AB-10. Not as reliable as our Team's beloved Mini-14s but still very nice when you need a lot of firepower in a small package. I love it when a good gun comes together!"

"I have got to get one of these AB-10s... I wonder if its better than a phaser."

"The AB-10 is illogical, Captain. Such an unrefined weapon for uncivilized persons."

"Hey, Watch it Buddy. There is nothing better than having a handy Blaster by your side."

ab-10

ive had a couple of them. had mine modified with a sten front half(kurtskustomguns)mine did not jam and worked fine as long as i used factory mags in it.the .22 versions were hit /miss as far as reliability goes.i wouldve liked to see a carbine version but only 1 was ever made and it never made it to the public marketplace.
