Utah is Gun Land?

In a prime example of shlock reporting, KSL News has managed to screw up a simple story.   They talked to a 3 people in putting this story together.  1.  Another KSL Reporter.  2.  Some dude from back east.  3.  An Anti-Gun Reporter named Gunn.  They didn’t talk to anyone else in Utah… like Utah Gun Owners.  They could have gone to any of the Dealers in Utah, talked to some Utah Instructors…  But they didn’t.  It’s as if they wanted to keep distance from the topic as much as possible.  The other thing that bugs me… KSL has called Utah, “Gun Land“.  This is a tag I’ve never heard.  So I did a search and the only reference to Gun Land, other than the Deseret News bit that was mentioned, was another article… this time from the SLC Tribune Blog, in an Opinion Piece. Sterling SMG’s

Yesterday I went over to Crusader HQ and helped work on the Sterling SMG project.  I had some fun doing it… I really did.

The Sterling is a unique weapon.  It’s simple to the point that it makes an AK look complicated, yet it has a crude elegance about it.  The parts that came were all in various conditions and each one had it’s own personality. The parts had to be all be cleaned, resurfaced / Slipstreamed.   It was time consuming, but we knocked them out pretty good.  Joe still has to do the finish work…. One of them is going to be Pink.  It should turn out awesome.

One thing that impressed me was the Slipstream process.  It’s easy to describe, but very challenging to do.  It’s a blind process that is done by feel.  It takes an experienced touch to do it, and Joe has that.    The result is a Sterling that actually feels like a weapon.   No grinding feel, no grit.  Huge difference compared to the last Sterling I fired.   Photos Soon.

Recent Movies

Battle LA: I enjoyed it a lot… I thought it was very well done.  It felt like you were watching someone play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but it was fun.  It even had the short vehicle stage.    Overall it was a great recruiting effort for the US Marines.   Which is a good thing, so I don’t begrudge them that at all.  But where is the movie about soldiers where they sit around and wait all the time?  Like in real life?

Sucker Punch: Distill all awesomeness and unfiltered imagination and mix in heavy metal and hot chicks… and that about sums up Sucker Punch.  The phrase Eye Candy doesn’t cut it… it’s Eye Crack… Zack Snyder did it… he made Crack for your Eyeballs.  I can’t go into any detail, because I’m still blown away by it.  Fight Choreography is something that Zack is very good at, not only that, but he’s very good at actually showing you the fight.  Not like some movies where there is so much happening you can’t tell what’s going on (GI JOE) but he actually shows you the fight.  Like his previous masterpiece “300”, this one is going to rock you.    It’s required viewing.   You have to go see this one.  ASAP.

Going Classic… kinda

I wanted a new pocket knife.  I know, I have a bunch… but I’ve carried all of them and they have lint on them now.  You know what I mean?  That and they are mostly all “Tactical” of some sort.   Well, one of my favorites has been a Buck Avid Select.  The problem it has is that it feels too delicate for hard work.  It’s a great knife and wicked sharp… but I want something a little more tough.  This thin Buck though has made me look at other Buck knives and I kinda kept coming back to the classic 110 Folding Hunter.  The Buck 110 is what really started the folding knife as being an acceptable outdoorsman’s knife.  The lock mechanism, the clip point blade, and a good size made it great knife for all around use.   Continue reading Going Classic… kinda

The hypocrisy is staggering.

We need to GTFO of Libya.  We have nothing to do with Libya and we can’t afford to get involved in their internal struggle.  Libya has a history of American Hatred, so they don’t even want our help and they certainly don’t deserve it.  As much as I don’t like that crack-pot over there… he’s over there and has made no threats against the USA.

But what I find most repugnant, is the hypocrisy of this administration.

“The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.

As Commander-in-Chief, the President does have a duty to protect and defend the United States. In instances of self-defense, the President would be within his constitutional authority to act before advising Congress or seeking its consent. History has shown us time and again, however, that military action is most successful when it is authorized and supported by the Legislative branch. It is always preferable to have the informed consent of Congress prior to any military action.”
-Barack Obama, December 20, 2007

So tell me… Where does Obama get off doing this?  In his own words, these actions are wrong.  If this was Bush doing this… Bush would be the most vile and despicable person in history.  But Barry gets a pass… even if his excuse for doing this mirrors Bush’s reason for Iraq.

MARCH 19, 2011
OBAMA: ‘Today we are part of a broad coalition. We are answering the calls of a threatened people. And we are acting in the interests of the United States and the world’…

MARCH 19, 2003
BUSH: ‘American and coalition forces are in the early stages of military operations to disarm Iraq, to free its people and to defend the… world from grave danger’…

I don’t know… maybe I’m just not nuanced in geopolitical matters… I mean, I only took a semester of it in college so I am no expert by any means.  But I do know the difference between right and wrong.  And being in Libya is flat out wrong.  We need to GTFO.

Wait… this isn’t a WAR… It’s a Kenetic Military Action.  Oh, well then.  Never mind.
